Im writing my final on the queer coding of vampires in Interview with a vampire and The Lost Boys. For context, this is my writing. “Vampires were first introduced to mainstream western culture by a closeted gay man, Bram Stoker. His vampire was a secretive creature of the night, charged with power and sexual allure. They are still, however, monsters feared and rejected by their prey, humans.
Regardless of the vampire media, to become a vampire you must drink their blood, letting them feed on you in return. Here is where Interview with a Vampire and The Lost Boys start. Two young men are unsatisfied with their life. One is at an ending- his wife dies in childbirth; the other is at a beginning, moving to the “murder capital of the world.” They both meet a powerful and mysterious blonde man. They are given a choice- do you accept death (condemnation to the closet) or do you want a new life?” I dont think I can get away with describing Louis and Lestat as “two bottoms trying to make it work”
