Canon EOS 250D 35mm 1/60s f/22 ISO 100 {Photo 1} Canon EOS 250D | 109mm | 1/100s | f/20 | ISO 100 {Photo 2} Canon EOS 250D | 35mm | 1/125s | f/20 | ISO 100 {Photo 3} All taken on 02/06/2020. This was 'la Festa della Repubblica', Italy's National and Republic Day and, therefore, a public holiday — and another day to go out and explore Piemonte! I took train from Alessandria to Montechiaro-Denice station on the Alessandria–Savona line — one of the few lines that was running given it was a Sunday and when the interregional travel ban was still in place. I'd found out that the station was 50km south of Alessandria and 15km from the region of Liguria, so I expected the surrounding area to be very hilly and mountainous. And indeed it was! As everyone knows, one of the best perspectives for admiring and appreciating the spectacular landscape is from above which, for me, meant an hour-and-a-half uphill trail (excursion number 577) to Montechiaro d'Acqui at 560 metres above sea level. And with the searing heat and little shade, it was extremely challenging at times! Knowing that I'd be rewarded with unforgettable views of 'Valle Bormida' ('Bormida Valley') and the pistacchio-filled brioche I'd bought earlier strengthened my motivation. Sensational views of the valley can be summed up in these snapshots taken where the castle of Montechiaro d'Acqui used to stand. The most incredible thing was that nobody else was there to take in such beautiful, unspoiled nature and countryside—just me. Talk about unforgettable experiences!
