Mission name: Valaipoo vadai | banana flower patties Ground set up: Bengal gram - 1cup Diced banana flower - 1cup Buttermilk - 1cup Fennel seeds - 1tbsp Green chillies - 2nos Dried chillies - 3nos Salt - 1tbsp Asafoetida - 1tsp Onions - 1 large Roasted bengal gram powder - 3tbsp Curry leaves - 2sprigs Oil - 1cup for shallow fry No. of disasters per fire: 4persons How to launch: 1. Soak Bengal gram/ kadalai parupu for about 2hrs and drain it. 2.Remove the valaipoo/banana flower's bulb shaped tip found inside called nerambu, chop it and let it soak in buttermilk water for about 10mins. Strain and keep it aside. 3. Blend in a jar, soaked bengal gram + fennel seeds + dried chillies + salt + asafoetida + roasted bengal gram + curry leaves into a coarse paste. 4. Add drained banana flower into the same jar and make it into a coarse paste. Transfer the paste to a bowl, add diced onions + green chillies and mix well. 5. Flatten the patties for about one inch thick. 6. Heat oil in a kadai or a dosa tawa and let it fry for about 2mins each side. Serve hot. Mission launched: Yummy evening tea time snack. Post mission expedition: 1. Remove the bulb shaped nerambu from the flower as it results in indigestion. 2. High level of nutrition content. 3. Soaking the banana flower in buttermilk removes its sour taste. 4.
