âAh, a moment of your time, Your Majesty?â
âWere you the one that caused the commotion just now?â Â The Queen had something of a bemused smile on her face. Â âItâs nice to have a bit of breathing room before the ceremony, but itâs also timed, you know.â
âI perhaps may have incited a scuffle, yes, and Lyth perhaps may have also...endorsed my actions.â Â There should have been some vague sense of shame but...this was Kyrene. Â She had no shame for something like this. Â âAnd I promise Iâll keep you on schedule. Â This will just take a few moments.â
The way Kyrene spoke was her usual easy-going manner, but her actions and body language inferred a sense of formality, of respect.  Camilla could tell whatever the raven had to say to her was important, in some part, to the other woman but there was a sense of...unease.  Maybe the outfit sheâd chosen was somehow uncomfortable and sheâd wished to let the Queen know, but at the same timeâŚKyrene wasnât one to bring such small issues to her attention and much less before a large ceremony.
â...You have my attention. Â Please speak freely, dear.â Â A genuine smile. Â Itâs okay, sheâs not going to be offended by whatever it is you have to say. Â Speak freely.
â...There is...a tradition for the new year that I do occasionally indulge in. Â Itâs quick, harmless, enjoyable in most cases, but itâs...also very personal. Â Like a good luck charm between two people for the year to come.â
Kyrene was dancing around something, which was both very much like her and also slightly worrying to the Queen. Â Not in the least because time was drawing ever closer, but so was the raven. Â
âYour Majesty, with your permission, Iâd like to share this tradition with youâŚ?â
Aaah, she was so close. Â For someone who usually acted without thinking, this was very carefully considered. Â What had she said? Â âQuick, harmless, enjoyable?â Â They were face-to-face now.
â...You may.â  Camilla softly exhaled, tensing slightly at the first touch of the ravenâs palm against her right cheek, and thenâŚ
Warm, gentle, erring on the side of chaste.  The kiss lasted no more than a second, but felt ten times longer.  So this was why
And just like that, their lips parted, although Kyrene didnât draw back right away. Â She rested her forehead against Camillaâs--an action sheâd seen the raven and her dragoness share many a time--and whispered:
âA h-uile lĂ sona dhuibh 's gun lĂ idir dona dhuib, Camilla.â Â
Another kiss was pressed gently to the right corner of the Queenâs lips.  Camilla herself was...quietly speechless, not just at whatever language Kyrene had just used, butâŚwas that the first time the raven had called her name directly?
Was that a smirk on Kyreneâs face---
Another commotion broke that train of thought, and immediately the raven was a respectful distance from her again and being brusquely shooed out by one of the many servants making their way back in to begin final preparations. Â Gone as swiftly as she had appeared.
But that sensation still lingered, and she couldnât help but bring her hand up to lightly touch her own lips.
And secretly smiled.
