"Like this?" her voice came as soft a ringing bell in his ears as he lifted his head to see her example. In her hands was a crown of flowers with not a single blemish in sight. Her handiwork was remarkable. "I was... I was always too afraid I would ruin the flowers if I didn't weave them the right way. So, I never... I never tried."
Despite the fact that she had never tried to make a crown of flowers before, she knew just the way to do it after watching Ray transform a field of wild daisies into his friends. He took a breath, the warmth of a beam of light kissed his scarred cheek as dared not hide himself from her gaze.
"It's... perfect."
She was... wonderful.
Her smile was as sweet as honey even as nervous as it seemed to be under his speculation. Her brown eye flickered from his back to that crown of daisies in her hand, the other remained under the eye patch she wore to protect her cornea from further damage. The fire had not taken her eye but it left its damage on her cornea, and now it was far easier for her to get around without that side.
That side of her body was covered in faded scars as well, matching his on the opposing side to the letter, and fortunately, when he saw her smiling this time, he didn't feel guilt for his decision nor hers to come back for him. They survived in spite of it all, and they had the blessed luck of being able to say they didn't lose anything that day.
She helped him realize he wanted to live and she said he helped her remember how good it was to smile.
Even though many offered them pity and grief for their loss, neither Ray nor Lila saw it that way. Sure, their lives were inherently different from what they expected, but that was it. They never expected to get this far, much less find themselves with someone who adored them... and that in itself was a blessing.
Even Saeran couldn't deny that as a short chuckle escaped him from the back of his mind.
Ray looked at the flowers in his hands as soon as he could find in it himself to look away, frayed but beautiful in their right right, just as he imagined himself and Saeran to be. They were tired, sure, but not beyond love and redemption, and they had her to thank for that. Her kindness helped them realize they deserved better... and they could be better to not only themselves but others, too.
If neither of them had ever seen Lila's smile and willingness to look past their fears, things might not have worked out the way they way. Life may not have been easy, nor perfect in a conventional way, but that didn't matter as long as they had each other to turn to in a time of need.
With a delicate hand, he nestled the crown of flowers on top of her head, and whispered, "A Valentine's gift to you from me, my sweet flower."
"And I you," the warm blush that danced across her cheeks warmed his heart as she did the same.
See, I've already told you a little bit about Lila bonding with Lucy! She calls V's daughter Lucy, "Little Lucy!" You know, because Lila's sister is also named Lucy. I still can't believe I named her sister that back in the day and then Cheritz smacked me in the face by also using that name in canon. But, Lila did, in fact, make sure it was okay to call her that, though.
Just like calling somebody "[name] Jr", she doesn't want Lucy to feel like she's second banana to her sister Lucy. Lila knows what it feels like to be in somebody's shadow, after all, her mom tried to make her live in her big sister's shadow her entire life. Fortunately, her sister never let that break their relationship, but it's something that bothers her sometimes even after these years.
Lila video calls her sister to show Lucy the dog sanctuary she runs back home in America. Lucy loves to see all the different dogs, and it's kind of sweet to know there's a Big Lucy out there who helps all kinds of animals in need, just like how her Uncle Jumin takes care of different kitty cats.
Fun fact, this is the first time I'm telling anybody this, but my take on Jihyun’s new career post-VAE is as a painter, but he has a hobby on the side. He offers art classes to all ages, but he focuses mainly on teaching young children. Do you know who his assistant is? That’s right! Lila is his assistant. She’s also a painter, you know, she and V have that in common, and the one good thing about the VAE is that they actually get to build a friendship.
But, working with V is a lot of fun for Lila, believe it or not. Lucy goes to those art classes all the time because her Dad runs them, but she loves whenever Lila's in the class, because she always has stickers to give out the kids and Lucy is sticker fiend. She has a collection that's growing by the day.
Minji, on the other hand, loves to dote on Lucy whenever she comes over with Saeyoung and Judas. Lucy gets to learn how bake things hands-on, and it doesn't matter what she wants, Minji helps her find a way to make it. That's the fun thing, Saeyoung sits down with Lucy and helps her draw something silly, and Minji helps them turn it into a feasible project.
That means even if it's a nine-layer longcat ice cream cake, Minji will find a way.
She's just that kind of person. I don't know what to tell you, you just shouldn't doubt her ability in the kitchen. Lucy also gets free treats whenever she visits the cafe Minji and Jaehee operate. Of course, it helps that those samples are to help them figure out the next item of to go on the seasonal menu, but hey, Lucy isn’t complaining about being a guinea pig. She gets to have as many treats as she wants and nobody tells her to stop!
Okay, granted, Jihyun makes them limit it to two treats per visit, but that's because his partner scolded him a little bit for letting her sneak treats.
Judas is a sweetheart, at least, when he wants to be. Contrary to popular belief, he's great with kids. He may not always know what to say to them in certain situations, but he’s a good listener and that’s what benefits him. A lot of kids want to be heard, especially kids who haven't had the opportunity to be heard by other people, and he sees that Lucy needs that.
He doesn't know what her life was like before she was adopted, but he knows that when he ended up on the streets, all he wanted was for somebody to hear him. It's not even that he wanted to be seen, he wanted to be heard. He knows people might always overlook him no matter how old he gets and how much visible he seems to the world, but if his voice is loud enough, they can't ignore him.
Lucy gets to talk about anything that's on her mind whenever he comes over to visit. The funny thing is, he learns how to hold the conversations with her about whatever she's deeply invested in at the moment. Being that she's a kid, that can change day from day, but it also means he may now know the lore of the My Little Pony universe far more now than he did yesterday.
When he was with his parents, the only thing he was allowed to do was what his mother deemed acceptable. He wasn't allowed to be interested in anything that didn't benefit the family, and he never wants a kid to go unheard. Even if that means he needs to learn why friendship is magic. By God, he'll listen to her, and his favorite pony is Rarity, by the way.

Ray feels at fault for her burns, but it isn't his fault. She choose to stay with him because she didn't want him to be alone anymore, and she didn't want to be alone anymore, either. They were two lonely souls, lost, hurt, and afraid, who found each other when they needed the other the most.
God, and VAE Suit Saeran! He’s wary to trust anyone or anything after what happened in Mint Eye. But, you know, when he looks to his side and he sees someone standing next to him who knows exactly what he went through back then, he can’t deny that there’s a sense of kinship and safety. She’s the only safe place... even if he can’t say it out loud. He looks grumpy, worn, and all frayed like a stray cat who survived a hard life, but she still smiles at him like that.
Who gave you the right to make a meme about VAE Ray and Lila? WELL, THE JOKES ON YOU BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T DIE. THEY JUST GOT A SET OF MATCHING BURN SCARS THAT TELL THEIR TALE OF SURVIVAL AGAINST THE ODDS TOGETHER WHICH IS MUCH MORE POETIC ABOUT DYING TOGETHER!

I always say I’m done, but this time, I think I’m done. I finished the emojis for the VAE variant ending that I have. Their outfits are based on how I imagine all of the party outfits to look for them. Ray gets his canon outfit, Saeran gets a nice little vest with rose motifs on it, and Lila gets her cute little pink dress to match with Ray. Do not repost.
I just wanna smooch Lila on the cheek and style her hair so bad 😩 We actually have quite similar hairstyles and hair length, except my hair is straight! I'm terrible at styling my own hair cause of how long and thick it is, and I simply get too tired for something complicated, but doing someone else's hair? Now that's something I can get behind! SE Lila with a short hairstyle is also just way too cute for my health fgrwxbu
The fun news is that Lila appreciates whenever someone offers to do her hair! She's spent a long time figuring out what styles that she will like on herself and she's very particular about how she likes things to be done if she's the one tinkering with her hair. If other people are the ones doing it for her, she's much more open to what they think will be something that looks good. When she was younger, she would often simply tuck it into long braids to save herself some time and trouble.
The thing with loving hairstyling has a lot to do with being someone who has a love language of acts of service. It's hard for you to care for yourself but it's easier for you to take care of someone else. Lila is very chatty and easy to get along with if you're giving her a hand with something. She loves to hear input and whatever's on your mind if you want to talk about something else. She's a good listener, at the end of the day.
Her hair is the one quality about herself that she loves. It makes her feel confident and powerful, and in the case of VAE Lila and SE Lila, she loses her hair due to circumstance and it really eats away at her confidence. In VAE, they had to shave and chop off a lot due to the burn scars, and in the SE, she cut it off in an act of defiance and self-loathing to punish herself. In both cases, she struggles to look at her body in the mirror without feeling sick.
So... having someone offer to help with her hair would mean a lot in those endings because it means that she's worthy of a gentle touch and she doesn't need to be afraid of herself. In the case of GE Lila, it's simple. She just loves the attention and affection, and Saeran is very well known to spend a good portion of his evening helping her with her hair simply because he likes the repetitive motion of brushing on his hands.
So, honestly? She's readily available if you want to style her hair for her one of these days, just be mindful of the one that you pick since she's a little insecure.

"I love you," her tender voice spoke to him as he sobbed. Ray was so upset and hurt that he got them into this mess in the first place. As he discovered the reality of his actions, the more that he learned of what happened, the more shame that he felt in his heart.
Why would she ever love him when her body was riddled with burns because of him? Sure, his holding her had protected her from some of the blasts, but it didn't stop her cheek, neck, and shoulders from being scorched.
Seeing her buddled up in wrappings like he was broke his heart. He wanted to cling to her but he had amassed much more injuries than she had. It ran up his entire side... from his thighs to his back to his arms and his face.
"I love you, Ray," she repeated herself, her fingers grasping his with their unmarried sides. "I'm not angry... I could never be angry. It's not your fault. I choose to come back to you. I choose to stay. This isn't your fault."
He couldn't bring himself to clench her hand again. But he didn't stop her from kissing his unmarred cheek over and over again. "We're okay now... I promise... we're safe... I'm here. I love you... I love you... I love you so much."
Even as he wept, he wasn't sure he was deserved this much tender love and respect. Yet, she remained, her heart still clenched in his hands and their lives safe.
