It's bonkers how the most popular refrain from people about why they think Volume 9 is bad is just people throwing out there that "they had Ruby be horribly tormented and commit metaphorical suicide!" and... that's it. No explanation given as to what's supposed to be bad about it. No discussion about the writing or the handling of the subject matter, just something that sounds vaguely shocking taken out of context and presented as if the badness is somehow self-evident. Is having female characters go through intense hardship bad in and of itself? Are depictions of suicide bad in and of themselves? No, what's actually happening is people who are already predisposed towards hating the show take its badness as a given and presume everyone agrees so all they have to do is point to it and go "see, look." Well I am looking and I did see and I think it's a fantastic storyline. So try again.
