I used to write a blog called Cool Asian Kids with my sister, actually. We liked to write about our experiences as Asian American teens growing up in Los Angeles, and we covered everything from our love of anime to our love of good Asian food. Blogging gave me a lot of pretty amazing opportunities; one year, I was selected as a speaker at V3 Digital Media Conference, a conference dedicated to highlighting the achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the digital media. That was really amazing.
But think of this as something entirely different from Kool Asian Kids: it's meant to be more of a development blog at times and a personal blog at others.
I am currently taking the semester off from USC in order to refocus myself and pay better attention to my health, both mental and physical! I'll be working on music, writing, and game design. I'm hoping to slap together a game I'm proud of during this time, and I'll be posting (semi) regular updates about it here. Not yet, though! I'll keep you posted.

Inspired by a day filled with great discussion amongst a community of content creators and storytellers. 💯 . Overall takeaway: We all have a unique story to tell. We have to own and know our story to share with the world through whichever platform we decide to use. . Cheers to 5 years of a great @v3con! #v3con #vision #visibility #voice #digitalmedia #journalism #socialmedia #blogging (at Japanese American National Museum)
#V3Con ended over an hour ago and my brain is fried. I didn't "network" or "try to talk to people" which is probably why I haven't found out anything about the after-party that supposedly happens every year.
Right now I'm trying to convince myself to go outside of DTLA to get dinner, and talking to commanderrobot via FaceTime. HGTV is on.
Is it worth taking the bus to Hollywood to get In-N-Out? Should I try to see if the night market is actually happening? Should I give up and order Japanese room service?
tricialew - Brownie Brittle 4EVA! I'm hoping I don't make myself by eating the whole bag this weekend. I want to at least save some for the plane ride home on Sunday, which is when I also plan to eat a French dip from Philippe's.
leahj - I think today might be better. I'm actually attending a workshop called "Hijack Your Way Into A Media Job" so hopefully I'll feel less like "Why the hell did I come all the way out here?" and more "I am a Pomeranian in a light-up kimono."
V3Con started tonight with a reception and ceremony for the recipients of their Visibility, Voice and Vision awards.
I was totally not in a mindset to network with what seemed like every AAPI journalist or publicist in Southern California, so I just ate ("Would you like chicken or octopus?" "Um, yes?") and checked my phone a lot. I felt weird about being at a media conference when I'm not a professional journalist or blogger or tweeter or viner or whatever.
There was a lady carrying around a Pomeranian wearing a red silk kimono that had lights on it. According to my friend Elise, this dog is named Sophia Loren and she is on Facebook.
Ann Curry won the Vision award. Before she accepted it she got pulled onto the stage by rapper DanAKADan, and she totally got down and danced and rapped with him, and it was awesome and she is such a good sport. Also she shared what news story she's currently working on and it sounds totally insane.
Now I'm lying in my hotel room trying not to pass out even though I've been awake since the dawn of time.

Last night when I got home from having dinner with carlyo, and a drink with lisawhite and Justin, I found a notice on the front door of my building.
Apparently a woman had been sleeping in the hallway on the second floor. If she was spotted in the building again, tenants were advised to call the police. We were also asked to notify building management if the locks were not working.
When I made it upstairs to my apartment, a notice was shoved under my door. Could whoever was storing the moped in the bike room please remove it by July 15 lest it be discarded?
I mean, I guess a moped is a bike, right?
Anyway, I did some laundry and fell asleep too late so I only got about 5 hours of sleep. I got up, packed (forgot my watch!), and got a Hailo to the airport (thank goodness for my code for $15 off). Traffic on the outbound Kennedy was slow, even at 6:30 in the morning, but I made it to O'Hare with plenty of time.
Security was a breeze, so I had time to eat McDonald's breakfast before boarding. I actually splurged on a window seat in an exit row, with extra leg room and a seat that reclined. The dude in the aisle seat carried a beautiful black Goyard cross-body, and we talked about whether or not he should get it personalized with his monogram. He wondered if it might be pretentious, and I think it is, but if you can afford to spend low four figures for a coated canvas bag, I say go for it.
The girl who got the middle seat between us was tiny, but like most tiny people didn't seem aware that every contortion she made while she tried to find a way to sleep was actually totally annoying. But a middle seat on a four hour flight is no fun and I had the window anyway so I just read my magazines and drank a lot of diet Coke.
I haven't been in LA in almost four years but the feeling of the sun and the heat radiating off concrete was so familiar by the time I made it to Union Station, and got the Metro to my hotel. I got to check in early and nearly holed up in my air conditioned room until I remembered that I hadn't eaten since 7:00 Chicago time. It was now 1:00 pm in LA.

Bus to Angels Flights, the famous old timey funicular that, of course, was totally closed
Walk up steps next to funicular. It smells like human poop. Given that the signs in the closed Angels Knoll park next door only warned people about picking up dog feces, I had to shrug as I hiked and held my hand over my nose.
Walk to MOCA gift shop. Buy badges for myself and commanderrobot.
Walk to MOCA. Through the magic of reciprocal museum admission policies, I got in for free.
Place is small, but I'm a sucker for contemporary art. Oooh, they had pretty much every photo from Nan Goldin's The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, which I love.
Got watermelon rosemary lemonade and strawberry lemonade cupcake from Lemonade, the cafe at MOCA. Delicious.
Waited for 10 minutes at the wrong bus stop back to hotel. Located correct bus stop.
Sitting in hotel in underpants watching HGTV. This is always my favorite part of any vacation I take.
