There's a VERY loud thunderstrom happening outside and while I'm not usually scared of thunder, this one is a bit much for me too.
So I'm feeling like hurt and confront comfort.
You know, VAE!Ray and loud noises. Not the best combination. Imagine VAE!Ray experiencing a loud and scary thunderstorm and MC (not V's MC, I mean a reader who's in a relationship with Ray or something) needing to comfort him through it.
Maybe, if you want to add some spice, add VAE!Saeran into the mix too.
Ray was... always skittish when it came to loud noises. It’s not that he wanted to be scared of them. It’s not even that he was scared of the idea of them. It was a simple case of the noise.Â
The sounds of intense winds slapping against the roof of the house, the loud thunder that crackled and rattled the household, and the feeling of dread that came alongside those sensations.
He had admitted to you that it was a genuine problem for him. Noises that were louder than someone calling out to you always made him hesitate. It was hard to handle that phobia but it was something that stuck with him since his accident.Â
It was one thing that no matter how hard he tried to cope with, it just became more difficult each time.
He once mentioned that he thought that being removed from the... past might make it easier to cope but... it didn’t. It didn’t matter how long it had been since the accident happened. All that mattered was that the sound frightened him to a state of silence.Â
If it was bad enough, he would go quiet and tremble underneath your fingertips. As if he would wither away and disappear from your sight if you blinked for one second. Right now, you were holding him as tightly as you could. He had come to your room in the dead of night with his lungs heavy and eyes wide and filled with tears.Â
If he stayed the night with you, he tried not to sleep in the same room because he was scared of having a nightmare and lashing out in his sleep. Tonight was one of those nights but it just so happened he picked a night where a storm was coming through the area.Â
You knew what was wrong.Â
So you immediately opened your arms for him and he crashed into you. Gone was his hesitation and fear of getting into your personal space. He clung to you with desperation in his body. You could feel the tears as they trickled down from his cheeks onto your collarbone.Â
“I... I... I...”Â
He couldn’t bring himself to say what he wanted. You knew that he would tell you if there was something that he didn’t like or want his way, but he didn’t have to force himself to tell you what was wrong when you understood.Â
You knew it was a trigger for him and he needed someone to help him feel safe again.
“Shhh, shhh,” you gently coaxed him. He shuddered when another boom shook the house. You let one hand trace shapes against his back while the other tried to smooth out the tufts in his hair that had come from waking up in a frenzy to try and find someone.Â
You hummed a song underneath your breath that he mentioned that he liked when you were making a playlist with him filled with songs to help him when these things happened. The power was out and you weren’t sure where you had left your phone, otherwise, you would’ve given him your headphones.Â
That’s what you did when this happened during the day. You would give him headphones and sit with him until it was over, but right now? You could only do this for him.
His whimpers softened but he didn’t say much after that. He just let himself hold onto you because that was the only thing that he could focus on. The storm was going to pass sooner or later and you just had to wait it out. You hated that it had come out of the blue, though.Â
You always tried to make sure that he would be comfortable at your house despite weather, holidays, or whatever sprung up. Ray was precious to you and making sure that he was okay... that was all you wanted. He had been through a lot in his life and it meant nothing for someone to protect him from a simple fear.Â
Brushing your lips against the side of his head, you felt his weight settle against you deeper as the knot in his spine evened out. It seemed like a good sign as the storm continued to rage outside of the house. Yet, just as you closed your eyes, you felt his grip tighten against the back of your shirt.Â
“Thanks for trying to calm him down,” he spoke lowly, voice gruff. “He needs to sleep for a little bit, though.” Â
That was Saeran, then.Â
His grip on you didn’t loosen.Â
Saeran would never admit it but you could feel the same unease against him the same way that you had with Ray. You didn’t know if he was scared of the same thing but you weren’t going to pressure him to ask. He was here because Ray hadn’t been able to withstand everything.Â
You wouldn’t abandon him, either.Â
“We can still stay like this, though, just in case.”Â
“...Yeah, just in case.”
