i think itās really telling that boundary warriors think boundary breakers are just annoying people and meanwhile boundary breakers are scared of getting hate and getting doxxed and getting threatened. it says a lot. these people think weāre evil even if we just want to create things because we love something and wanna make things without any kind of limits (aka something tumblr and ao3 are made for, fandoms have always been like this)

Okay. So, a while ago, I saw a post complaining about the women in uu not getting enough screentime, and having roles that only further the protagonistsā plots (the op specifically judged that on the fact the protags are male) and I have a rebuttal because I think their argument is stupid. Before anyone starts jumping on me before I even begin, I am female, this is in no way motivated by sexism, I think thereās a problem too, I just think this specific argument about the topic was stupid.
Specifically their point about the women only furthering the protagsā stories. They probably wonāt see this, and I hope they donāt because I donāt want them to be upset. But if you are reading this op, you know who you are and Iām going to write this like Iām talking to you.
As respectfully as possible: do you know what side characters are? The entire point of any side character in any piece of media, whether they are male, female, or none of the above, is to further the protagonistās plotline. They are called side characters for a reason. It doesnāt matter if the side character in question is male or female, or even non-binary or gender fluid. The plot is still the sole reason that character exists. AND before you say that āthey couldāve had at least one of the protagonists be female!ā guess what? Flame was not the original fourth protagonist. They asked Squiddo (a woman) first, and she turned them down, so they got Flame. Keep in mind all the ccs in question here are friends. It is not misogynistic or whatever that they didnāt press the role onto her, actually itās the opposite. Plus, Squiddo did still show up with an arguably very substantial role in the mafia arc, so it wasnāt like she wasnāt included at all after that. And again, before anyone says that they couldāve gone to another lady, Iām gonna stop you. Because who knows if they did or not? Truly, it doesnāt matter! They still picked someone that was good for the job, and Flame produces a ton of great content from unstable, so you canāt tell me you donāt want him there.
Anyway, I suppose what Iām trying to say is: if you see a problem in the fandom or the media itself and want to call attention to it, please give reasonable evidence that the problem exists instead of sewing together something that takes away from the point like this. Maybe read over the post out loud or at least to yourself to make sure itās all good and accomplishes the point. And, please. Google what a side character is before posting. imma be honest i think that boundry breaking is not the worst because as long as you keep that content away from the mainstream best you can and just do it to indulge yourself then it's not that bad but what IS bad is the fact that boundry breakers get characterized as like these people who harass others etc etc but rlly most of them dont do that and just block and stay away. i feel like as long as people dont harass we could have a better fandom (a step... there is still a ton of racism and sexism imbedded deep.)

when I first got onto uu tumblr I saw a lot of boundary breaking / implied boundary breaking posts and would ignore them to be respectful. but people on uublr have opened my eyes to the fact that setting limits on the kind of content people create about ur character/the ways people engage with your content and threatening to send people after them for violating the rules is kind of weird. I think itās kind of strange. but on the other hand these ccs are people and deserve respect no matter how poorly they handle boundary related issues. I myself am not a boundary breaker and will continue to respect their wishes but I just think there are better ways to handle this kind of thing
