What is sleep killing?

sleep killing follows the story of Adriana, a troubled high school student caught in a spiraling murder plot across campus with help from Penny, her BFF & team's moral support, as well as the prodigy mastermind Lucien pushing her deeper into chaos.

The gaming club president Sage as well as club secretary Rebekah are fully aware of what's going on, but due to a corrupt school system, are powerless to stop it.

This is what they tried telling the club members, but they're all stupidly reckless, so they try to stop Adriana throughout the school year anyway. As Adriana, you must prepare for the goofiest, most dangerous fights of your life.

What's it looking like right now?

To be honest, not much! That's why I'm asking for help!

We have tons of plans & ideas for three whole routes/endings, a turn-based combat system, an overworld combat system, midsection minigames, & LOTS of scripts.

If you couldn't tell, we're in a very early stage in development. This is also my very first time doing anything like this, so any advice would be appreciated!

I'm mostly focused on the story right now, so if you're even remotely interested in this, please come check it out! Feedback on scenes & attention in general are what will help right now!

We also need writers, artists, music composers, & once again, just friends to bounce this off of & have a good time with! Because this is nothing but a concept right now, things are VERY chill & mellow in the "workplace". Just a bunch of people on Discord talking about a concept.

This is a thread that I posted to twitter a few weeks ago now, since then a lot of lore has changed and I've realized that it's a really bad format for what this is. I'll likely come back and edit this post as time goes on, adding more images and stuff as I make more.

So, this is a remake of my old au from a year ago; "Deltarune Chapter [?]" with a lot of changes

The main character is still the vessel, and they also have a canon name! Their name is "Umbra", and they canonically chose it themself! Rejecting the name given to them by the player in favor of their own name.

This is a ref sheet that I made for them for artfight this year! It's very bare bones but that's because I don't have that much art of them besides this stuff.

I'm gonna be remaking the dark world design soon, as I noticed that their design looks a lot like zacharies concept art from OFF. So they'll likely look more like that.

Instead of this taking place after a hypothetical chapter 7 weird route where you take control of the vessel and kill everyone, like chapter [?] it takes place after chapter 5s weird route ending. 

In this world, Kris and Noelle went missing. The lack of the soul meant that there was no way to seal the fountains anymore, and the world came to an end. Leaving the earth a barren wasteland with no survivors.

All otherworldly forces also completely disappeared , no gaster, no player, no nuthin. The only ones who remained were all the goners from undertale, and the vessel that you created at the start of the game, who all live together in hometown as one big ol happy family. how did they get there? man idk. probably were in the shelter or something. It just sounded cooler to me than just having poor Umbra live there alone. I'd feel bad for them.

Speaking of Umbra, their characterization is entirely different in this remake. There is no soul, so Umbra's personality is all their own. The only problem is they were never MEANT to have their own personality, wills, wants, or needs. The only thing they have are the traits that were bestowed upon them. (I imagine their personality would change depending on the choices, but it doesn't really matter cuz their decisions are ultimately the same, it's just slight changes depending on the various choices. the canon ones are in the ref sheet, because I thought it would be funny.)

They were never able to serve their purpose, so they don't know what they should be, or how they should be. They're not sure at times whether they're even allowed to have an original thought. Instead of being told what to do by one person, they look to others for guidance, rely heavily on their role models, and their entire sense of morals rely entirely on the people around them and their needs. They want to do what's right for right's sake, and are very easily influenced. Despite this, they're still a dreamer. They look up to the delta warriors of the past and fantasize about being there during the events of deltarune. They think that if they were there during the events of the weird route, things could have been better, and that they could have stopped it. Or at the very least, die trying. Their dark world design is a design they made while imaging themself in a dark world fighting alongside the other main characters. They have no knowledge of anything past chapter 4, because from their perspective the world ended before the events of chapter 5 could even take place. They still have knowledge of the regular non weird route version of the timeline though. They hate the soul, and the player. cuz they're completely responsible for the world ending. They also love their friends and want to play and draw.

If I had to compare Umbras characterization to anything, it would be Calliope homestuck. 

All the goners know each other very well, I'd hope so considering they're gonna be spending eternity together and all. But Umbra's best friend is Goner Kid, or Goner Teen (they refer to them as GT)

Why do they look like monster teen now? Idk, why not. That's way cooler. GT is the one that Umbra spends most of their time with, and they both share the same dream of wanting to be there during the events of deltarune. They also created their own dark world design too, that will be used when they do eventually get to enter a dark world. This design doesn't exist yet. GT will be the other main member of the party. There is no official "third" member as of writing this. Above all else, GT is motivated by the desire to be real. to exist, and be somebody that will be remembered by all. Like Umbra, they both never got to be real, to be somebody. Neither of them got to have a childhood either, so they both relate to each other very heavily in a lot of ways. 

They'd finally get their chance though, when they realize that maybe there's a way that they could bring everybody back. Making dark worlds in hometown is pointless, as the roaring has led to all new fountains just making darkeners that are all made of stone. All they really provide is just some extra scenery. But what if they could go OUT OF BOUNDS. HAHA. GET IT? and make a dark world there? I'm not sure who puts this thought in their head. Maybe they thought of it themself, maybe the normal npc told them to do it (like in the original chapter [?]) but either way it doesn't matter because that's what they do. They make their way to the lake, and when they reach the bottom, they find an empty room underneath the lake. Once they clip out of bounds, they focus their will into their blade, and create a dark fountain.

This results in a dark world made up entirely of the games files, meaning that it can pull from LITERALLY ANYTHING. This makes the fountain absolutely massive, spanning possibly miles in size. 

Because it can pull from anything, that means that the fountain also brings all the main characters back to life too right? Not exactly. Dark worlds are built off of the will of the one who made them, and Umbra never MET any of these people. So the dark world isn't really pulling from the actual characters, rather, their memory. The essence of their character. This makes a bunch of fucked up still life versions of all the characters we know, as well as every other character in the series. This doesn't mean all hope is lost though, because the actual characters ARE out there somewhere. I imagine among the hundreds of fake main characters, there's one of each main character. They just need to be found. This fountain is so massive, its darkness starts to leak into the real world as well, resulting in all darkeners met in that fountain to be recruited and brought home to hometown. The somber guitar piece that makes up the current hometown theme would slowly become more and more cheery as you bring the world back to life.

The entire game would be about rebuilding the world, and the game itself would play like a roguelike where each run of the dark fountain being randomly generated, with new bosses, enemies, and friends to meet and bring home. So when you recruit susie, you can bring susie to new runs in the dark world. etc etc, and this goes for every main character in the game.

Also, in the original au it has a lot of unused undertale content, as well as all of the sound test songs. I'm still gonna do this cuz it's cool. even if it doesnt make that much sense, but shhhhhhhh....... it's fun. The only song from the old version of the au that will remain mostly unchanged is meat factory I think.
