But something that isn't talked about enough or acknowledged by 2012 itself is that the Utrom are victims of a Hivemind,,??
It's a bit jarring sometimes to hear the way the Turtles (And other protagonists / allies-) speak about the Kraang (i.e. In, "Operation: Break Out" when the Turtles point out the fact that the Newtralizer enjoys attacking the Kraang and Mikey says, "Who doesn't?"-), because a majority of them are being forced to act in the name of Kraang Prime. The only Utrom exempt from this (Aside from the Utrom Council and the few survivors they had accrued-) is Kraang Subprime, primarily because they're in cahoots with one another. This fact is never once acknowledged by the heroes of this story and I find that to be upsetting a little bit- I understand that they were the antagonists in the beginning but it would've been interesting to see the group's perspective on the Kraang situation change as they learned more about them / their origins,,
Because when we see the Utrom finally free of Kraang Prime's control by Season 5 (These screenshots coming specifically from, "When World's Collide (Part 1)"-), they're super chill and peaceful aliens- Which implies that the Kraang / Kraang droids the group has been fighting this whole time (Up until S3-S4) were the exact same Utrom,, Which makes me sad honestly, because some of those Utrom went out in very cruel ways in the previous Seasons- It makes it even worse when you factor in just how long the Utrom were under this Hivemind control via Kraang Prime, since in Season 2 Kurtzman claims they've been around since "the dawn of civilization".
I just wish we got to hear their story a little bit more. Why was Kraang ("Kraang Prime") such a bitch? Why did he do all of this? If the Utrom species is inherently peaceful, what causes Kraang to stray from those morals and ideals? So many questions and no real answers.
This also pisses me off because this is yet another plot point that could've elevated April's character given she's Half-"Kraang" / Half-Utrom. They could've done so many things here- Like April feeling as though she's "evil" because she (Along with the others at the time-) didn't know Kraang and Utrom were two separate things, which could've played a huge role in her Aeon Crystal Arc in my opinion. Or April figuring out that the Utrom are trapped in a Hivemind way sooner than everyone else but struggling to convince her teammates that it's true (Which wouldn't be because they don't believe her or value her input, it would definitely be a similar how Mikey would try to prove something but his evidence would conveniently "vanish" or whatever- Lmao). Or my personal favorite take, Kraang Subprime using the truth to gaslight April into being on their side but omitting his involvement in Kraang Prime's schemes !! 🗣️🗣️

Today is the fic’s second anniversary so i thought I’d release the spoiler that Utrom appears in later chapters (how and why I won’t say just yet). They’re best friends with future Don tho.

In my TMNT story aliens are planning to take over Earth and make all the living beings their vehicles, to fuse with their bodies seamlessly. They funded TCRI and are running cruel experiments on humans and animals, to create perfect mutants suitable for their needs... They haven't achieved their goal yet, so now they use robot bodies. Those robots are supposed to appeal to people. You know, pretty face, smile, friendly expressions and... white skin. But aliens don't truly understand humans, so they created creepy uncanny valley demons. Mr Krang is their boss, he is an utrom too. He rules TCRI. If he dies, utroms will choose a new Mr Krang.

Утромы - продвинутая раса из измерения Х. Они бесполые, и, как осьминоги, практически являются мозгом с щупальцами. Спектр их эмоций гораздо уже, чем наш, они не имеют имен собственных, а используют номера. Их родная вселенная похожа на лавкафтовский мир. То, что кажется колдовством и безумными ритуалами для нас, для них - наука. Они знают формулы, создающие мутаген и словесный код, активирующий его. Они прибыли на Землю, чтобы колонизировать ее. Но пока что они не заявляют о себе открыто. Они считают нецелесообразным вступать конфронтацию с людьми. Пока что.

Утромы проанализировали все это и учли во время разработки, но, поскольку они так и не поняли суть человека, их "дружелюбные" роботы выглядят, как пародия на человека, двигаются, как подтанцовка Леди Гаги и вызывают хтонический ужас.
Утромы относятся к людям, как мы - к животным, и используют их, как материал для экспериментов.
Заведующий центром исследований и глава операции - мистер Крэнг. Это не имя, это должность. И после того, как один мистер Крэнг отслужит своё, его место и имя получает новый.

SO. For this au I had a funny thought. I was like, lol what if Shredder and Bishop were brothers, how messed up would that be for the turtles' two biggest enemies to be brothers lol? And then was like. Huh actually wait. This could be interesting
Anyway.
Oroku Saki and [redacted]Bishop are estranged brothers. Their parents met in New York and that's where they lived for about the first 7 years of their lives. When Bishop was 7 and Saki about 5, their parents were getting a divorce and each decided to take one kid with them (very parent trap of them, just without the kids ever trying to get them back together lol). Their Mother takes Saki back to Japan to live, while Bishop and their father stays in New York.
For whatever differences their parents had, they pushed those ideas onto their children and barely had any contact with the other. Their mother considered her ex husband (and other son) dead to her.
Saki and Bishop weren't necessarily close as children, but saki was hurt by the absence of his brother and felt betrayed (even tho neither child chose this fate) and his mother reinforced that idea. Hate grows blah blah blah
(One night. While the parents were still working on their divorce papers, their uncle (their father's brother) was taking them out to distract them from everything for a bit. Well at some point in the evening, the walked in somewhere they shouldn't have been and saw something they shouldn't have seen.
Squishy aliens in human shaped suits that did nothing to hide their unusual appearance. Aliens that did Not appreciate being seen/disrupted. Two boys lost their uncle that night and walked away with two Very different viewpoints. Bishop saw his uncle killed by aliens without mercy and decided that anything alien or unusual was not to be trusted at the least and eradicated as a basis. Saki saw these strange beings take out his powerful Uncle, whom he had looked up to, and decided they were powerful. And HE wanted to be powerful too, and that's what begins his obsession with powerful items of any origin.)
Then Saki makes a friend while in the foot clan.
Hamato Yoshi is a boy the same age as Saki, whose family is in the foot clan. (Hamato Yoshi is not Splinter in this au)
They grow up as friends, but as Saki's obsession with power grows, and his family begins to take over the foot clan, Yoshi begins to draw back and eventually leaves the clan, when it is no longer honorable.
Saki is of course angry at him leaving, but worse is that he lef to "join the enemy"
(Saki returns to New York as an adult because it was his first home, and also where he knows he can gain power, through business means /politically and also because he knows there's an alien presence there and plans to find out what they are and what he can gain from them)
Which brings me to, the utrom and krang.

Krang/utrom
The utrom are aliens on earth. They sorta look like squishy brain tentacles, but they can also "expand" tendrils to look more branch-y/bigger. When they're expanded they sorta look like if a leafy sea dragon tried to look like a brain .... if that makes any sense
Krang are a group of utrom that are set on taking over the planet/galaxy. Other utrom are on the planet to round them up and take them off the planet. The krang killed Saki and Bishops uncle because he caught them in the middle of some scheme, and the reason the boys are alive is because the utrom showed up in time to stop them, not that either bishop or saki realized that, as they had run away.
Yoshi met the utrom at some point while he was still with the foot clan and realized how wrong Saki was in trying to gain power from the aliens, regardless of how he obtained technology or artifacts, or if he was killing the utrom or the krang to get it.
Yoshi leaves the foot and begins to work with the utrom in searching for the krang and keeping humanity safe while also helping to keep the utrom safe from the krang and earth enemies (shredder and the US government).
(And so when shredder is looking for the utrom and comes across yoshi who refuses to tell him where they are, is enraged at his former friend (and maybe all the feelings of betrayal and abandonment boil up) and… well. All that makes it out of the scuffle is a lonely little rat.
Leatherhead
LEATHERHEAD!! :D in the incident that mutates the turtles also mutates leatherhead.
Leatherhead was a pet alligator kept by someone in New York, but when he started to get too big they dumped in the gutters/sewers, where he wandered for a while. Then he ends up walking theoguh some glowing green ooze and changes. (Splinter had already carted off the turtles by the time leatherhead came to the scene). When the utrom came to make sure they clean up their mess, they find leatherhead and take him back with them, so the utrom is Leatherhead's family. Splinter meets him when the utrom take care of splinter. He agrees to go with splinter to Shredders headquarters, because he mourns the loss of possible "cousins" and also he imagines if his family (the utrom) were taken from him the way the turtles were taken from splinter, he'd be livid too, so he helps splinter.
When they find the turtles, the turtles love leatherhead and the he loves them back. LH is the cool older cousin. When he mutates he's about the equivalent of a 7(?) Year old. So when he's helping splinter raid the foot building, he's about 17yo.
Splinter
Splinter is a rat! He was Hamato Yoshi's pet rat. Yoshi found him injured one day, and took care of him until he got better. But then splinter just stuck around and yoshi didn't mind. Yoshi talked to him all the time about his day and his life in japan and the training he had. Splinter really listens to it all. As a rat he may not understand it all completely, but the memories are there.
The night Yoshi dies, shredder had either tracked him or the utrom to the area and attacks them. During the fight Splitner does try to help, but he's kicked aside, and hits some of the utroms containers of ooze (i think i had an idea at one point of what the ooze is supposed to be. But I dont remember at the moment). The containers and splinter end up rolling into he gutter/ sewers, and this is when splinter gets mutated. Because he has so many memories of Yoshi tlaking about his life in japan and about being a ninja, splinter retains a lot of that information, and is the reason he continues with ninjitsu.
So. When shredder first found their home, he was just looking for utrom holdings/safe house. Their home isnt really near the utrom base, but one of their routes is close to a path that splinter uses, and so in the search Shredder came across that and ending up tracking it back to their home.
Shredder may or may not believe him to actually be Yoshi since he knows so much about his and yoshi's time in japan. Splinter managed to learn moves that only those in the foot clan would know. Things only yoshi would know. So shredder flips out and attacks. but Splinter, tho injured, ends up getting away and losing Shredder. But in Shredders frantic search he ends up wildly far from splinter. But close to the turtles. By the time he finds them, he's calmed down enough to find these little mutants fascinating. And if "yoshi" got turned into a rat, who know who/what these turtles really are or what they can do. And that maybe they will also draw "yoshi" back out of wherever he went to hide.

Splinter spends a while first just trying to find out where the boys went. Did they wander? Did someone take them? Who? It takes a little while for him to realize that it was shredder, because he had tried to lead shredder away, but shredder had ended up looping back around. Then it took a while more for him to track down Where Shredder was and more time trying to figure out how to get in/ know if his boys were even a live still AND recover from his wounds.
Anyway it takes a while and Splinter ends up either jumping the gun, or Shredder manages to find him first and this is when shredder "kills" him, and taunts him in his final moments that he will kill the turtles that splinter spent so long trying to find.
However as said before in the other post, the utrom happen upon splinter, and manage to save him from his fatal wounds. But it takes even longer for him to heal. So by the time he's recovered. He thinks its far past being able to save his sons.
He is DEVASTATED when he thinks his sons are dead. (Doodle 11) Like it nearly destroys him, but he pulls himself together enough to go after shredder if for nothing other than vengeance.
April
APRIL!!! :D
Im excited to talk about her, cause I havent gotten to thst point yet in the other posts! Which, have I really not mentioned her even a little in any of the posts?? I cant find anything on my blog but I swear I remeber writing something…. but maybe that was in my word doc
These doodles are me trying to figure out her character design. I really like the one in the middle on the far right.
April is a high school student (a few years older than the turtles) who manages to earn an internship with Dr. Stockman (around around time that Shredder comes back from Japan with Leo).
However. Dr stockman is under the employ of Oroku Saki, but tends to have a good seperation between public research and the projects for shredder. However, in April's time there, she realizes that Stockman is hiding Something, and she's curious and noisy, she one days she hides in the building after she was supposed to have left and uses a stolen keyboard to get into Stockman's other lab.
At one point while snooping, she bumps into something, someONE else. (the design i said i like is also the face she makes when this happens) She expects to be caught and hauled out, but instead the other person just freezes. They've both been snooping with the lights off and they're both in dark clothes, so she can sorta see that someone is there, but no details. She can just make out their eyes a little bit. They stare each other for a minute.
Eventually april goes "are you supposed to be here?" The other person slowly shakes their head no.
"So you weren't here, and I wasnt here right?
"Agreed"
And in two seconds that April turns around, the other person is gone. She waits and waits for alarms to start going off, or for Stockman to tell her she's fired the next time she comes in, but it never happens.
April didn't see the other person very well but they kept their word, so she wont say anything about it either. But she cant help but wonder sometimes about the odd shape of their silhouette. How it looks like something big was on their back (a backpack? A shield like captain america?? ) and how she was pretty sure when they had bumped into each other that they had thick fingers, like they had normal sized hands but only 3 fingers? What happened to a person for their hands to end up like that? Well. It's none of her business if a perosns hands are different . And the slight green tint she thought she saw on their skin must have been either an effect of the dark. Or maybe they had face paint on?? She decided not to think about how their eyes were a little wider apart than normal. Not her right to judge someone if they have a slightly wide head and different hands.
No, she has bigger things to worry about. Like why stockman has a secret lab thats building weird little t-rex looking robots?

When april sneaks back in another night and follows the weird little robots into the sewer tunnels , her entire life changes that night when she meets a giant talking rat and 3 bipedal turtles.
After meeting splinter, Mikey. Raph and Donnie, she figures that one of them is who she ran into at the lab before. But she Had promised not to tell Anyone. And none of them had said anything to her about that night, so they must be keeping it a secret. She would talk to them individually, but she's not sure which one it was.
Eventually she thinks it had to be donnie. Mikey is too tall, and raph's voice is too rough/deep (tho he could have faked it). She hasnt heard Don speak, but she know he's smart enough to have made it into he building with out setting off alarms and probably the only one who would be able to make out anything of the information in the lab.
She doesn't know about a 4th turtle, because its already a touchy subject for them, let alone to bring him up to someone they just recently met. (Even if she is a cool human who is kind to them)
(I haven't quit decided when she realizes it was Leo she saw, because I haven't decided when exactly Casey Jones comes in, and he might also end up encountering Leo unknowingly)
Karai
Karai is Shredders adopted daughter in Japan. When. Shredder brings Leo to Japan, he tells them that they are siblings now. Karai is ecstatic to finally have someone close to her own age (she is a few years older than Leo) .
Leo isnt sure what to think at first, but over time does start to sorta consider her a sister. She's no where close to the relationship he has with his brothers, but they have similar interests in ninjistu and she maybe introduces him to more of the bushido concepts.
Leo still knows he has to get away from shredder. He knows that he will have to get away at some point. He lied karai and thinks she should also get away. But he never can figure out how to bring up to her that she shouldn't trust her father, that he tried to kill his own father. Because every time he thinks about saying sowmthign to her, she talks about how grateful she is that Saki saved her (she was an orphan he took in off the street. Gave her a home) and he just cant find a good time to say "hey I know your dad like saved you from being homeless, but uh he's also evil and 2 steps away from killing me and my family"
So. When eventually Leo goes back to American and finally goes back to his brother's and Splinter. She's heartbroken that he abandoned her and shredder reinforces the idea that you have to rely on yourself and never be vulnerable blah blah
So when she gets older and comes to America, she's pissed at Leo and at one point their conversation (mid fight) is
Leo: I was just trying to survive!
Karai: and I just wanted a family!!

Maybe they'll eventually get over the hurt and work it all out
Leo and the wish
This one is literally just a doodle of leo holding the magical wish object from the earlier post. It's Leo looking at his brothers right before confirming his wish, even if it means it might not go the way he thinks.
(I …. dont remmeber what the other little figure is at the bottom. I think it was just a random doodle that doesn't have anything to do with the main image)
Bishop and leo past

So. When Leo spends a year in Japan with Shredder, at some point bishop decides to visit his family home and sees a little mutant. Xenophobic bishop takes him. Bishop has him for somewhere between a day or a week before he is able to escape and/or shredder comes to get him back.
Leo doesn't talk about what happened to anyone. He didnt even tell his family once they got him back. He wanted to forget about it, and figured it was a problem that stayed in japan (he had no idea that bishop was from the USA let alone new york).
So when a few years later when theyre teens and Leo is suddenly facing Bishop… Raph has no idea who this guy is and leo freezes up and tells raph (the only brother with him at the moment) that they need to just GO. And Raph is so surprised at him saying "Shit" and the look on his face, he doesnt even argue and follows his little brother in a winding run that goes on far longer than anyone would have been able to follow.
When they finally stop and Raph tries to ask what the heck was going on, Leo just turns to him and grabs him in a hug. Raph is a little surprised, but holds him while Leo calms down enough to tell him who Bishop is.
