the only bit of Deltarune ship discourse that matters to me: it’s a little bit frustrating when Kriselle gets treated as if it’s a straight ship, and when Suselle is treated as ‘the (main) queer Noelle ship’. Let’s not forget that Kris is nonbinary. Any romantic relationship they might have with Noelle is, by definition, not heterosexual. Yes, Kris and Noelle did, when they were younger, go for Festival King and Queen respectively. This doesn’t make their relationship straight. It just means that there wasn’t an option to vote for a gender-neutral title, and might’ve taken place at a time Kris wasn’t out as nonbinary.
there is a valid point to be made about the fact that the Weird Route involves forcing Kris and Noelle into a twisted heteronormative dynamic, where Noelle is expected to comply with all of the SOUL-via-Kris’-body’s actions, and Kris is basically forced into a masculine role in their dynamic. But this should be seen as part of the psychological and physical violation to which both Kris and Noelle are subject to in the Weird Route - Kris is not only possessed and forced into violence, but also forced into a masculine role that doesn’t align with who they are. It’s another form of the disembodiment and violence that pervade the Weird Route. It’s comphet via possession. The comphet of the Weird Route does not make Normal Route Kriselle a heterosexual dynamic - rather, it highlights the oppressive nature of forcing heterosexuality onto them.
