āPancakes?ā Sakura asked, not turning as she flipped the batter over in the pan.
āWith chocolate chips?ā Ino said, slouching into one of the rickety, mismatched chairs around Sakuraās kitchen table.
āWhat else?ā said Sakura.
āYouāre a godsend!ā Ino moaned into her arms.
āI try,ā Sakura said, finally turning to give her friend a smile. She paused, taking in Inoās entire vestige. While gorgeous as always, Ino was not exactly pristine. Her hair was down for a change and Sakura spotted several tangling knots. āWow, you were not kidding about not being a morning person.ā
Ino deigned to raise herself from her arms, glaring balefully in Sakuraās direction. āI wasnāt as a child and decades later Iām still not.ā
Sakura placed a plate in front of Ino, patting her shoulder in sympathy before taking a seat in the faded red wicker chair across from her. āYou still havenāt explained the age thing to me. The rest call you and Naruto and the rest ābabiesā but youāve been alive for decades?ā
Ino shrugged. āCouple centuries. Everyone ages differently. I only recently reached maturity. So I was technically a kid when I was your pen pal.ā Sakura nodded, digging into her pancakes. āGods above and below!ā Ino exclaimed. āThese are amazing.ā
āBetter than Chojiās?ā Sakura teased.
Ino glanced around furtively, smile curled and pleased. āJust donāt let him know.ā Her smile faded into a scowl as her gaze focused on a spot above Sakuraās head. āWhat is that?ā
āWhat is what?ā Sakura asked, alarmed, as she patted her hair. āWhat?ā The that in question floated down from its place in Sakuraās hair, landing innocuously on the table. Sakura laughed, relieved. āItās a feather.ā
Ino didnāt look nearly so satisfied, snatching the feather up and examining it with an expert eye. She snorted. āTheyāre quite terrible at preening,ā she muttered, tone strangely victorious. She turned cornflower blue eyes on Sakura. āWhy exactly were you at the Uchiha compound?ā
āItachi whisked me away,ā Sakura replied with an eye roll, feeling warm all over as she remembered his words. Family. āI stayed for dinner.ā
Ino didnāt say anything, returning to her stack of pancakes with an angry vigor. Sakura returned to eating as well, squirming as the silence veered into awkward, strained territory.
āThanks for coming with me today,ā Sakura said. āI know itās really early in the day.ā She gestured to the colorful sky outside; the vestige of sunrise.
āOf course!ā Ino said, brightening once more. āIām glad you asked me to come. Trust me, itās really easy to lose yourself at the market.ā
āI have no doubt,ā Sakura said, glancing at Inoās hair once more. She itched to tease out the tangles. āIno, is it alright if I braid your hair?ā
At worst, Sakura expected a gentle letdown if Ino didnāt want her hair touched by inexperienced hands. After all, Ino was a hairstylist herself.
She did not expect Ino to leap to her feet, flushing. āU-um, I-I meanā¦I didnāt expectā¦itās fine with me,ā Ino said, ending on a nervous giggle as she took her seat once more.
āAre you sure itās alright?ā Sakura asked, wary of Inoās response.
āItās fine,ā Ino said, grin wide. āI justā¦it was unexpected.ā
āOkay,ā Sakura said, standing up and moving behind Inoās seat. āAre you sure?ā she asked, wanting to make sure her friend was comfortable.
āYes!ā Ino yelped. She cleared her throat and said more quietly, āYes.ā
With tentative hands, Sakura carded her fingers along Inoās scalp. Her hair was thick and luxurious, moving through Sakuraās fingers like liquid silk. Ino released a noise that sounded suspiciously like a whimper. Sakura paused but Ino did not move.
Shrugging, Sakura continued on, drawing her fingers down through the knots and unweaving them with gentle patience. She was in awe of Inoās hair, its length and softness were extraordinary.
Ino leaned into her touch, soaking it in with small sighs of contentment and satisfaction. Her fingers curled into the surface of the table as Sakura began the process of separating her hair for braiding.
āPerfect,ā Ino replied, tempted to curl into a ball and drag Sakura with her. Build up a room of soft and shiny thingsā¦
āAnd done,ā Sakura proclaimed, tying the end result off with a hairband. āNot half bad if I do say so myself.ā
Ino managed to conceal her disappointment at the end of the experience, instead leaping to her feet. āLet me see! Let me see!ā
Sakura laughed, leading her into the bathroom.
Ino examined the fishtail braid from all angles, assessing the look with a critical eye. Sakura did her best not to feel nervous. Her work being scrutinized so closely put her a bit on edge. Of course, sheād experienced all sorts of evaluations while in medical school and residency but this was different. This was a field that she had no real experience in and she was being judged by an expert.
Ino turned to her, expression solemn. Sakura felt her heart fall. āItās gorgeous!ā Ino said, pulling Sakura into a hug as she jumped up and down. āThank you, thank you!ā
Sakura laughed, caught up in Inoās giddiness. āGlad you like it! Itās been a while since Iāve done anyoneās hair.ā
āIf you decide that the doctorās life isnāt for you let me know,ā Ino said, adjusting the braid to fall over her shoulder. āI could use a stylist like you at the salon.ā
Sakura flushed with pleasure, shaking her head. āOh stop.ā
āI shanāt,ā Ino replied, linking their arms. āWe need to get going. The door will only be open for a little bit longer this morning.ā
Sakura, though not quite understanding, nodded in agreement and followed Ino outside, glad for her winter wear: a red pea coat and navy scarf combination that protected her from the bracing chill. It was truly winter now and the wind buffeted Sakuraās face until it chafed. She and Ino made their way out beneath the watery, rising sun as they headed into the center of town.
āShouldnāt we head for your car?ā Sakura asked, looking around the downtown area.
Everything was still covered in snow and the weak sunlight splayed across the icicles that lingered upon buildings and trees like thousands of glimmering fairy lights. The most eye-catching piece of all was the grouping of ash trees that sprawled out in the middle of the square. It was affectionately termed the ādoorway treeā from its numerous openings that weaved in and out of each other, creating spaces of empty air or ādoorways.ā The tree, rather, trees were rumored to have been there long before Pompeii existed.
Perhaps before Icarus tooā¦
āNo silly,ā Ino said, smiling at Sakura in that way many Pompeii residents regarded her: fond patronization. It was like she was missing some piece of the puzzle; a page from the story everyone else knew by heart. āAs I said, weāre using the door.ā
Sakura blinked, looking at the doorway tree once more. It was more than large enough for a person to pass through any of those negative spacesā¦
āTruly?ā Sakura said, feeling a grin spread across her face.
āYep,ā Ino said. āI got the tickets from Minato last week so weāre good to go. We just need to pass them to himā¦ā
āIno, Dr. Haruno!ā
āSpeak of the devil,ā Ino murmured as they turned to Minato. āGood to see you, mayor!ā
āI was worried you two werenāt going to make it!ā he said, tucking his hands into his pockets with a harried look. āThe portal is closing in ten minutes. Itāll reopen at 4:44 this afternoon. Itāll stay open for an hour and eleven minutes. Make sure you come back through by then!ā He waggled a finger in their faces. āKushina would have my hide!ā
āNo worries, Minato!ā Ino said, placing two orange slips of paper into his open hand. āWeāre punctual.ā
Minato hummed, still regarding them with worry as the tickets in his hand went up in a cloud of glittery smoke. āBe careful. Thereās a few others from town visiting the market today, though you know already that it is no guarantee that youāll meet up over there.ā He guided them around the side of the tree, to a place where a ladder led up to a higher opening in the tree. It was at least fifteen feet up. āRight here, ladies.ā
Sakura watched as Ino climbed up the ladder, doing her best to ignore her rising hesitation.
āIāll go through first and wait for you on the other side,ā Ino said. āThere will be aā¦swooping sensation as you step through. You know, like a first flight, only worst.ā
Sakura did not have a chance to say that she had not, in fact, experienced flight outside of planes and the Uchiha. She had the feeling that wasnāt what Ino was talking about. Sakura climbed to the final rung, staring through the negative space. There was nothing extraordinary about it; Sakura could see the pale wood of the other side of the tree. However, Ino was gone, just like that.
She could do this. Sheād weathered scarier things.
She closed her eyes for a brief moment before pitching herself forward.
There was in fact a strange, swooping sensation that yanked at the space behind her bellybutton. Before that, however, she opened her eyes to grey surroundings, ensconced in glimmering, glittery crystals. There was this weightlessness that accompanied her, something that made her think that this was what space might be like, if space was the place Between. It was soothing and Sakura found herself drifting as if cast out to sea for what could have been scant seconds or infinite eternities.
Suddenly she was in a thick copse of trees. She was naked. The treesā needles were heavy and weighed down and scratched across her bare skin. Sakura clutched at her arms, unable to ignore the rasping whispers of the trees, some long forgotten language harsh against her ears.
She tried to move, tried to fight as the trees closed in around her, but she was helpless as their chanting picked up.
Sakura could only watch with horror as the branches closed in around her, swallowing her whole.
Then, she was reeled in by the tug that centered at her gut. Sakura came back into herself, balanced on hands and knees and dry heaving.
Cool hands cupped her face and stroked back along her neck and back soothingly. As the ringing left her ears, Sakura could make out the nonsense comfort words that Ino repeated over and over.
Sakura sat back on her haunches, smiling up at Ino. āNot a chance that Iām wasting my breakfast this morning.ā
Ino laughed lightly, hands still making circular motions on her back. āSorry about that. The first time is the worst. I didnāt think to warn you.ā
āItās fine,ā Sakura said, accepting Inoās assistance to stand.
Inoās hands fluttered around Sakura, still guilty over her mistake. Ino cleared her throat, guiding her friend away from the cave they emerged from. She turned Sakura toward the revelry that was going on below them. āWelcome to the Goblin Market.ā
Arid, desert air pressed warmly against what little of Sakuraās skin was bared. Sakura unfurled her scarf and slid free of her coat, staring down at the market laid out before her. She could see no end to the jewel toned tops of different pavilions that were settled among the sand. The sun beat down upon them, high past noon.
āWhere are we?ā Sakura asked, blinking against the harsh sunlight.
āThis weekās location for the market,ā Ino said. She squinted, examining their surroundings. āI think we are in Hathor. Itās in Sudan.ā
Sakura glanced at her friend. āSudan, the country in Africa.ā It wasnāt a question, more just a statement to help her come to terms with the reality of the moment. āHuh.ā
Ino laughed, shaking her head. āCāmon now. We have quite a bit to explore.ā
Sakura grabbed Inoās hand, running down the hill as quickly as she can. She heard Inoās breathless giggles as Sakura led the charge into the marketplace. They fell into the throng of people and Sakura breathed in the smells of the place deeply, placing jasmine and cedar, probably wafting from the potions tent she could see up ahead to the left.
āWhere to first?ā Ino asked, taking in Sakuraās gobsmacked expression.
Sakura glanced around at the booths, different in every way possible. She settled on one of the tents that was a deep magenta and quite tall, filled to the brim with all sorts of shiny trinkets. The shopkeeper was a tottering old woman covered with charms that seemed the same as those within the shop. āHere?ā Sakura said, somewhat hesitant.
āGood choice,ā Ino said. āI need to refresh the charms for my house. And dadās been nagging me about getting him a cleanliness one. His wore out after only two weeks.ā She smirked at Sakura. āIām not sure if it was the shoddy craftsmanship or the chaos of the house that did it in.ā
Ino traded gossip with the old woman who ran the booth as Sakura browsed. There were protection spells from all around the world. She saw brightly colored omamori, small and large ankhs, and items that she couldnāt even identify. Sakura hesitated, tracing her fingers listlessly over one of the ankhs.
Maybeā¦
Maybe there was something here to help with the dreams?
āHey, Sakura!ā Ino called, bustling over. āIām heading next door real quick, itās the potions stall; you canāt miss it.ā
āBe safe,ā Sakura said.
Ino blew a raspberry and floated out the door, carrying a small bag filled with her purchases.
āYouāre going to be a hard one.ā
Sakura turned, startled, relaxing as she stared down at the wizened shopkeeper. āSorry, what was that?ā
āYouāve got a touch of darkness on you,ā the woman said, grabbing Sakuraās hand within both of her own. Her rings and amulets brushed roughly across Sakuraās skin. The womanās eyes went milky as she stared over Sakuraās shoulder. āItās something ancient, certainly not of your own doing.ā Her eyes turned gold. āMy, my, whatās this?ā she exclaimed, a surprised smile pulling at her lips. āHavenāt seen magic this old inā¦wellā¦ever.ā
āIs that bad?ā Sakura asked, mouth twisting in a frown.
The woman shrugged. āWho can say? Old magic like this is fickle and quite finicky. As of now everything seems to be wellā¦youāve just been brushed with it.ā
āGreat,ā Sakura said drily.
The woman leaned up, cupping Sakuraās face. She clucked. āThat bit of darkness, however, is hurting you. Come with me.ā
Sakura followed the woman into the back of the shop. There was a little workshop in the back, the place where the woman obviously made her craft. There were stacks of boxes filled with feathers, with twinkling jewels and bits of stardust, with shrunken heads and needles. In short, the room was pandemonium.
āNow, I only make the ankhs by hand,ā the woman said, wading into the mess and rifling about. āProtection charms are a dangerous craft and they can backfire quite easily. I get the omamori from a miko in the Tokyo region, lovely girl really and a time traveler to boot. However, what you need is something a little different.ā The small woman made a sound of triumph and made her way through the mire back to Sakura. āHere!ā
Sakura stared down at the circular object the woman placed in her hands. It was a dreamcatcher. It wasnāt one of those gaudy ones that Sakura saw at carnivals. It was made of willow, the natural wood clear as a flowering pattern of web ran through the middle. Pale feathers were attached at the bottom and at the very center of the web were two beads, one purple and the other white.
āThis should keep the darkness from festering in your night terrors,ā the woman said sagely. āItās made by the Ojibwe people. Trust me, itās as authentic a bawaajige nagwaagan you can get.ā
Sakura nodded, still smoothing her fingers across the soft, flexible wood.
āLetās go back to the front dear and Iāll ring you up.ā
Sakura was thankful to find that instantaneous travel between countries and continents did not, in fact, prevent her from using her debit card here in Hathor.
She exchanged goodbyes with the woman and headed out into the street, excited to show Ino her purchase.
Only Ino was nowhere to be found.
Sakura bit back a groan of frustration, turning to look through the crowd. The press of people around her was much too thick and she found herself moving among the vendors, not really looking at their wares as she searched for Ino.
Sakura continued her search for over an hour before finally electing to sit down on an empty bench, releasing a defeated groan. There was no chance she could find Ino, not in a such a sprawling place like this.
Certainly, Sakura could always return to Pompeii; she knew the way. Surely, Ino would follow.
Still, she wanted to find her friend and enjoy their time here together.
She didnāt have much longer before she would need to head back to the transport site. She didnāt want to be late.
Sakura placed her head in her hands, glum.
She blinked as what appeared to be a bubble floated in between her knees, popping against the rough wood of the bench. It was a bubble.
Sakura looked up as more bubbles began to sail by lazily, twisting with the wind. The sun splayed off of them, creating wonderful, multi-faceted prisms of light. Sakura kept her fingers gentle as she grazed the bubbles, trying to catch one. It didnāt quite work as they kept breaking. She couldnāt keep from laughing as one brushed against her nose and popped.
Another laugh joined hers.
Sakura startled, turning, red-faced in embarrassment, to see her new bench mate. He was quite slender and tall, his frame bent in what seemed an uncomfortable position to sit upon the bench. He wore his dark hair long over one eye. His expression was calm, peaceful even as he watched her with mirth. Between his lips, a long, slender pipe was held from which the bubbles emerged.
āThanks,ā Sakura said, still trying to fight down her initial reaction of embarrassment. āI needed cheering up.ā
āThe pleasure is all mine,ā the man replied. He smiled, ever so slightly. āEspecially when my audience gives such anā¦adorable response.ā
Sakura cleared her throat, scuffing her feet against the cobbled street. āIām Sakura.ā
āUtakata,ā he said, still eyeing her with blatant fascination and amusement.
āYou from around here?ā she asked, deciding that it was best to focus her attention to the bubbles he continued to blow as she made small talk.
āNot quite,ā he said. āAnd neither are you.ā
It wasnāt a question.
Sakura cast him a quick look but he was surveying the people around him.
āThis is your first visit to the market,ā Utakata said, taking a deep breath and blowing.
Bubbles larger than Sakuraās fist moved past her. āIs it that obvious?ā she said.
He inclined his head. āMany are harried, even after years of coming to the market. No need to fret.ā
Sakura hummed in agreement and they fell into a companionable silence, just watching the distorted shapes of people through the bubbles. There was something tranquil in this moment, a fragile sort of armistice threatened by the very thought of speaking now. The shouts of the vendors and the conversations of the consumers faded into white noise. She had nothing to worry about.
āSakura!ā
Sakura was jarred from her daze, leaping to her feet. āIno!ā
āIāve been looking all over for you!ā they exclaimed at the same time.
They both paused before laughing.
āWell,ā Ino said, āwe need to get back. Itās drawing late. I promise Iāll stick to you like an adhesive binding spell the next time.ā
āYou mean glue?ā Sakura asked.
Ino flapped a hand.
Sakura turned back to Utakata. āThank you for keeping me company, Utakata,ā she said quietly.
He smiled, bubbles filling the air around them. āAs I said, it was my pleasure. Until next time Sakura.ā
Utakata watched as the duo scurried off in the direction of the west transport site. He took a long draw from his pipe, blowing bubbles through his nose. A smile lit his lips. āI wonder what the weather in Pompeii is like this time of year?ā
He stood, taking off in the opposite direction, a lively spring to his step.
I heard that we can send headcanons about a OTP so... About utakata and sakura! I so imagine them on a double date with Katsuyu and Saiken (pfffff)! Everyone would be freaking out, but the four of them wouldn't care, too busy to enjoy their lovely time together!

*shyly sends the question* Uhm... H-Hi! First of all, I love your drawings :3 Sakura deserves all the love!!! And you draw her and everyone SO well!! I like how openminded with ships you are!! :3 so... I want to know how sakura and utakata would be together in your eyes :3
At first, Sakura was attracted to Utakataās charm while Utakata was entranced by her beauty and strength. After Sakura left Kiri, they would exchange many letters over time ā their feelings for each other growing by the day.
When they finally met in-person for the first time in months, the two finally confessed their feelings for each other.
A cute ship overall. Utakata is very handsome and carefree while Sakura can set him straight at the moments when heās feeling too lazy to do anything. Theyāre both strong and they would make a great couple!
utasaku where they're holding hands and sakura starts joking about how big his sleeves are since they keep covering her hand and then she really takes a look and them and is like 'how are these so big' and she manages to get her head and shoulders up the sleeve before utakata makes her get out cause he's embarrassed or something idk it seemed like a funny idea
I know you wanted funny and stuff, so I did funny. But I added a slightly more serious tinge to it since this is my first UtaSaku, and I wanted to test the waters a little and see how things worked out.
Iām proud to say that I quite like it, so I hope you do too!
Utakata is actually pretty hard to write, but Iāll get the hang of him soon.
I hope XD
UTASAKU!
Trailing slowly along the lightly shaded path, Sakura let out a sigh of content, her eyes falling closed as another warm breeze blew past and ruffled her short hair.
It was days like this that made her glad for time off missions.
No matter how restless she got, no matter how fidgety or bored, Utakata always found a way to take her mind off things. Be it a training session, a trip just outside of Konohaās outskirts, or a simple walk through the park.
He did his best to make sure she was happy.
And she always was, no matter how bored she may seem. Because just one look at his soft pale gold eyes and she was whisked away by her affection for him, her gratitude and love distracting her from the eventless days.
She loved him, so much that it hurt sometimes.
Squeezing the hand holding her own lightly and gazing at the serene man from the corner of her now open eyes, Sakura smiled, watching his intent gaze scan the people around them routinely.
He was paranoid and anxious sometimes, not used to being around large groups of people, but he did it for her, he swallowed his pride and dragged her from her house to get some fresh air.
All for her.
No matter how much she knew he hated it.
It often made her worry actually, worry that heād get sick of staying in one place, sick of the same people watching his every move curiously, day after day.
She worried that heād get sick of her.
Bored.
That heād want someone better, moreā¦more like what she knew he deserved.
More like Hotaru, with her sunny smile, her caring and devoted nature. Sakura knew he didnāt feel that way about the other woman, butā¦she knew that the blond had a crush on him.
Sheād admitted this to Ino once, laying her insecurities bare after being with him for the first month, her eyes tearing up and her nose running as she sipped at the water her friend had gotten her.
Ino had just looked at her like she was an idiot, telling her she had nothing to worry about, that Utakata was head over heels for her and he wouldnāt have bothered to tag along to the village if he was interested in someone else.
It had consoled her for a while, but the thought always lingered in the back of her mind, haunting her and keeping her awake some nights.
Would she wake up to find his apartment empty?
Would she go to meet him, only to find a note telling her he just couldnāt do it anymore?
Telling her that she was annoying?
Would he leave?
Leave her, just likeā¦just like Sasuke had?
Giving a sigh as Inoās voice ran through her mind again, she lent her head against his arm, placing one foot in front of the other as her mind wandered away.
āDamn it forehead, get your act together! Heās a great guy, heād do anything for you, you just need to open your eyes and see that! Actually see it, and see how much that hunk loves you.ā
She remembered the crying sheād done, as embarrassing as it was to think of now, clutching onto her friend as the blond reassured her and imparted her words of wisdom.
She even remembered his reaction when heād run into her on her way home shortly after, his soft gaze turning to a blaze as he swept her off her feet and to a more secluded area, cupping her cheeks and insisting she tell him what had upset her so much.
Heādā¦heād looked so furious, his chakra had even tinted that ominous red as he looked into her still puffy eyes.
All itād done was set her off again, his sleeved arms shielding her from prying eyes as he comforted her, holding her close as the pinkette muttered incoherent things.
Sheād never told him why sheād been in such a state, and he hadnāt pressed.
But sheād felt so much better afterwards.
Giving a sigh and shaking the useless thoughts from her mind, Sakura looked back up at her boyfriend, her gaze softening as he kept looking tensely at the people around them, a light blush staining his cheeks.
That wouldnāt do, she needed to distract him before he got worked up about something again, most likely about some old couple gossiping about them.
āYou know, if your sleeves get any longer, I might as well just go shirtless when Iām with you.ā
He froze for a moment, his eyes ever so slowly turning to look at her as his face flushed a little darker.
āW-what was that?!ā
They honestly hadnāt gotten to the moreā¦intimate part of their relationship yet, but Sakura couldnāt help but tease him about it right now.
Oh, she was definitely open to the idea, and she knew he was as well.
She didnāt miss the looks he shot her when he thought she wasnāt paying attention.
āWe could just cut an arm hole here and here,ā she pinched the fabric lightly, looking as serious as she could, her other hand still firmly holding his under the cover of his long sleeve. āAnd either cut a hole for my head here, or I could just share yours. Seriously, Iām wearing more of your clothes that mine when Iām with you, just look!ā
She lifted their joined hands and sure enough, the fabric slipped further over her arm, cover up to her elbow before she dropped their hands again.
He just looked at her for a moment and shook his head, an amused smirk pulling at his lips as he looked away again, pecking her lightly on the cheek first though.
Looking back down at his sleeves in thought, all she could do was raise a brow and bite her lip in thought.
Hmmmā¦
ā
He loved it when she joked around like that for him, her green eyes playful, that smile he loved always prompting one from him, no matter what the situation.
He knew she had a lot on her mind today, her pace having slowed while he pretended to watch the surrounding people.
They didnāt actually bother himā¦too much. Sure, they were annoying with their constant gossip and judging gazes, but he was used to it by now.
The little pinkette beside him though, she was always spacing out, always forgetting what situation she was in.
So he made sure to keep a lookout for her, to make sure she was safe.
He still remembered the first time heād seen her cry, and luckily, itād also been the last. Her red nose and puffy eyes, her sobs as she clung to him like he was all she had left in the worldā¦he never wanted to see her like that again.
Never.
So when heād tracked down and interrogated her blond friend Ino, his heart had broken when sheād informed him quite blankly that HE was the reason for her tears.
Heād been shocked, heās blanched and frozen with fear for the first time in years, his heart breaking in his chest as he considered all the things he may have done to cause her to..
To break like that.
The blond had taken one look at him and quickly corrected him though, making him swear to never tell the pinkette that sheād said anything.
Sakura wasā¦she was vulnerable. Sheād been hurt deeply before by her team, their separate departures making her question if others would leave her too.
Konoha ninja were raised to trust their teammates with their lives, to give their everything to those they worked with. And to have those people turn their backs on her, albeit two of them unintentionallyā¦
It had broken her.
And Utakata hated it.
He hated to consider her sitting around alone, for months on end, just watching everyone else train or go out scouting, or even just hang out with their teams while she was all alone with only her master and constant training to keep her from breaking.
Sakura Haruno was the love of his life, and heād do anything to keep her from ever thinking about those days again.
He knew what it felt like to be alone, to feel betrayed.
Utakata made sure to never bring the incident up again, instead, he tried to leave little hints here and there, anything to tell her that-No, he wouldnāt leave her.
Heād stay with her for the rest of his life if sheād have him.
Snapping out of his thoughts when he saw another young couple point and snicker in their direction, he gaze a glare, scowling heatedly as he watched them turn tail and scamper away.
Served them right.
They didnāt need to make Sakura have any doubts about them being together.
His scowl turning to a confused frown as the material of his sleeve continued to move, Utakata cocked his head to the side and looked down at his little girlfriend.
Only to stop short and freeze, his face turning red as his eyes widened in shock.
How on earth had sheā¦What was she doing?
Standing next to him all to innocently, his little girlfriend was currently working on getting his sleeve over her lower chest, the material shifting this way and that as she wiggled her way up, his skin tingling as it brushed against hers.
Blinking owlishly and using the hand she wasnāt holding, the brown haired man bent slightly at the waist, lifting the material up to get a look at her sheepish face.
How on earth had she managed that without him realizing
āSakuraā¦ā
āUhā¦Yes Utakata-kun?ā Her shadowed face smiled at him innocently, her eyes blinking slowly as the blue fabric shaded her head and upper body from the view of the snickering people around them.
āWhat on earth are you doing under my sleeveā¦?ā
āIā¦honestly, I was just curiousā¦. ā
Face still red, his expression turned exasperated, his back straightening as he slowly lifted the sleeve up and off her, the fabric sliding back down his arm to cover their joined hands again.
āSakura,ā He sighed lightly, a smile coming to his face as she looked up at him with a grin of her own, her eyes anything but apologetic. āYouāre so cute.ā
āHey now, I think you mean deviously attractive, irresistible even.ā
āThat too.ā
āGood, because when we get back to my place, Iām wearing your kimono. Itās so soft and comfortable andā¦and it smells like you. I like how you smell, b-but not in the creepy way or anything! You just smell so nice, like-like-ā
Sakura, sitting before him, draped in the light blue and orange material, the front gaping open just enough for him to catch a glimpse of that body he longed to hold against his own, her legs folded elegantly to the side, smooth, toned, just begging for him to touch her pale skin.
Her green eyes, looking up at him so invitingly, her shy blush staining her cheeks while she watched him with that loving look he knew all too well.
His scent clinging to her skin, his clothes draped over her small form, drowning her in the excess fabric as the top slid lower, beginning to slip off her shoulders completelyā¦
Oh godā¦oh no, not now of all times! His eyes wide, his mouth gaping as she giggled and blushed, he stuttered loudly, his nose bleeding ever so slightly as he looked away from her, trying to shake the image from his mind.
She was a little minx when she wanted to be, Utakata would bet she even did things like this on purpose sometimesā¦
āS-SAKURA! Donāt say things like that in public!ā
The pinkette just laughed, shaking off her own embarrassment as she moved closer and squeezed his hand comfortingly, taking a step forward and pulling the still blushing man after her.
Yes, she loved him, and he loved her.
Everything would work out in the end, no matter what problems they may have to face in the future.
