Even though I’m Ashkenazi, I have to agree — many of them have been there for generations, and have not a single clue of the collective memory like this of the descendants of those who hadn’t managed to leave
Honestly this post is not even about Ashkenazim in general, considering Ashkenazim in Europe (as well as Russian speaking Ashkenazim here, unfortunately) all face discrimination. It’s specifically about white American Jews who AREN’T descendants of Sordei Sho’ah.
Like you have said, they seem to completely have forgotten our history and they have no collective memory of anything whatsoever and I’m just... tired.
I’m just tired of them assuming every single Jew has the same safe and privileged experiences as they do, and that every single Jew is Ashkenazi and that only Ashkenazim are the valid Jews (like. what the actual fuck. I cannot even begin with how wrong that last notion is).
If you have forgotten ghetto fear, if you have forgotten what having to flee feels like, if you have forgotten what having to constantly hide your identity feels like, if you have forgotten what being on the run 24/7 feels like, if you have no collective memory of needing to SURVIVE, if you have no fear because you have been privileged enough to never NEED fear to survive, if you don’t know what it’s like to have LAWS written against you, then I don’t give a flying FUCK about your Jewish opinions.
They are the ones to have forgotten the fear, past and ongoing, of disappearance.
