I've been doing research. Some submissions have been rejected for not being unpopular enough. I'm using around 500-600 ao3 entries as a cutoff, but many entries have single or double digit numbers of fic. I'm gonna steer away from crack ships, but there is at least one that is going to be included, and there's a nonzero chance of others getting approved if they're funny enough.

Nope! I'm including some ships that seem to have 0 works on ao3. The definition of crack ship varies, but I usually consider it to be characters from completely unrelated fandoms, so it sounds like you don't have to worry about that. Talking passionately about your ship definitely helps your case!

I'm not aware of any other tournaments with a similar premise, sorry! There are something like 15 ships in this tournament with under 10 fics on ao3 and even five or so with no fics at all, I don't know about any tournaments where all the entries are at around that level

Yup! It depends on the size of the fandom, popularity of other ships, etc. I am hesitant to add very well known ships, despite their relative popularity, because I don’t want something to sweep the competition just because a lot of power recognize it lol.

There are two wolves inside of me. One wants to limit it to 1 ship per fandom. One thinks it would be very funny to have, like, 10 fnaf ships in there. Who will win????
