Tsuruichi I’m guessing cuz its Usa. Let’s call this “5 times Tsurumaru flirted with Ichigo and the one time he didn’t mean to”
Tsurumaru was not an idiot on most occasions. He was actually the wise guy at times but that only involved strategy matters. In regards to emotion, Tsurumaru was the last person to ask about love. What did he know about love? He never stuck around long enough to get attached to anyone. But then there was Ichigo Hitofuri Toushirou. A sweet, gentle sword who wormed his way into Tsurumaru’s heart.
Tsurumaru wanted Ichigo the very moment he realized he saw Ichigo more than just a friend. Thing is, this would be his first infatuation. And that meant he was a clueless dumbstruck idiot who knew shit about flirting. Not to mention the little monsters were always around Ichigo. (Tsurumaru pretends to hate them but he actually has a soft spot for the smaller swords)
The first time Tsurumaru made a pass at Ichigo was… plain stupid. He was outside on laundry duty with the Yoshimitsu tachi when:
“Nice day huh Ichigo?”
“Yes, it is quite pleasant.”
“Just like you.”
“You think I’m pleasant? That’s thoughtful of you, Tsurumaru-dono.”
What was that even? Pleasant? Really? How smooth. The following attempts were questionable. Who was he kidding, they were all stupid. He tried commenting on Ichigo’s clothes but it ended up with them talking about actual clothing materials. He tried using ‘physical contact’ but then he forgot he injured his fingers so a worried Ichigo ended up taking him to the infirmary. He tried tagging along to bathe with Ichigo but his little brothers ended up following them and Tsurumaru suddenly found himself in the bath house with the Awataguchi. And his most recent attempt, an actual kiss on the cheek was brushed off as “That was a sweet goodnight kiss. I’ll see you tomorrow, Tsurumaru-dono.”
Tsurumaru wanted to scream. Why was it so hard to convey his feelings? He didn’t want to come off too strong by blurting out how he felt towards Ichigo. He wanted Ichigo to at least some signals back. Facing rejection was not in Tsurumaru’s to-do-list.
After 5 failed attempts, Tsurumaru sat on the open hallway corridor outside his room and sighed. He needed to rethink his strategy. As he was lost in thought, ichigo caught sight of him from inside and proceeded to bring some tea and sweets for them to enjoy together.
Ichigo made his presence known when he was nearing the other tachi, “Good afternoon, Tsurumaru-dono.”
“Hmm? Oh Ichigo. Yo.”
“Would you care for some tea?”
Tsurumaru shrugged, “Sure. Why not?”
Ichigo sat beside him and poured them a cup each. Then they watched the cherry blossoms together. The silence was comforting, as how it had always been when they were alone together.
“This is nice…” Tsurumaru sighed with a smile.
“Yes it is.”
“I wish we could stay like this forever.”
Ichigo felt a tug in his heart, “Why do you say that?”
“I don’t know. The flowers are pretty. You’re pretty too. I don’t mind just watching the two of you for the rest of my life.” Tsurumaru said almost casually. He meant every word, Ichigo knew that much.
Ichigo was blushing with a smile before he giggled, “Are you flirting with me, Tsurumaru-dono?”
Tsurumaru stiffened and thought back about his words and took note of what he had just said. Did he compliment Ichigo? Yes he did. Did Ichigo like it? Obviously since he was blushing. Was he flirting?
“Yes. Yes I am.” Tsurumaru leaned towards Ichigo, “Why? Do you…? Dislike it?”
Ichigo’s smile widened, “Not at all. I very much…” Ichigo cleared his throat, “L-Like it.”
“Oh thank god. I’ve been trying to do this-” Tsurumaru gestured to all around them, “-for weeks. And it never works. And I almost said the stupidest things. Do you even know that I almost said ‘What a nice ass you have’ if it wasn’t for your brothers bathing with us? And you should have a towel with you at all times when you’re outside to wipe yourself. Your sweaty body is obscene and especially your neck-”
Tsurumaru paused when he turned to Ichigo’s wide eyes. Tsurumaru groaned and buried his face in the palms of his hands while muffling, “Can we pretend I didn’t just say that? Let’s move on, thank you very much.”
“Tsurumaru-dono.” Ichigo called out gently and he waited until Tsurumaru was looking at him before he continued, “Can I tell you a secret?”
“Ok?”
“I’ve liked you since the first day I saw you in this form.”
“…Eh?”
“It was platonic when we were confined in the castle but when I got to know you even better and you were this… attractive, I couldn’t help but-… I’m sorry if this is intrusive of me, I-”
Tsurumaru grabbed Ichigo by his nape and hand and pulled him close till their lips met. They moaned at the contact and felt sparks ignite inside their body. It was electrifying to have the other reciprocate. They kissed until their minds cleared and their hands tangled in each other’s hair. It was an unforgettable moment. And who would’ve thought it would happen on the day that neither tried to flirt purposely.
