Postage stamps are often a nation's way to showcase its arts, heritage, culture, and history. These days fewer and fewer people encounter them on a daily basis as computer-generated e-postage labels have become more common and fewer people are sending letters.
The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. operates the National Postal Museum, which is the museum of the United States Postal Service and its historical predecessors. The museum is also home to one of the world's largest collection of postage stamps.
