While I'm not a fan of kny (really I'm not) I feel like people saying it's overrated solely for good animation are missing the real reason why it's popular.
It's popular for visuals, eye catching character designs, swordsmanship, Buddhism symbols, basically all things samurai.
Atmosphere = 10/10
Acting = 4/10 (separately from the hyperfocused sword gripping and fighting scenes which is obviously 10/10)
Humor= 8/10
Animation = (SMOOTH, 100/100 special effects, but minus points for acting) 7/10
Characters (visual) : 10000/10
Characters (personality) : 5/10
Story: 8/10 but 3/10 by the near end of the it (after shinobu's death it went downhill)
Most of the personalities are stereotypes. But there's 2 good types of characters in the series: rengokus and shinobus. Tbh sabito's an arrogant version of rengoku, kinda like the pilot version that died during the crash testing
It's not bad, but they don't hide how they got favorites, and the hyperfocusing messed up the other characters
