Paraphrasing
What is paraphrasing?
Paraphrasing is taking the words of the original source normally your reading or reference material e.g. a Journal or academic text and restating them, using your own vocabulary. In this way, you keep the meaning of the original text, but do not copy its exact wording.
What strategies can I use to paraphrase?
You can:
Change the structure of the sentence
Use synonyms for all words that are not generic.
Change the voice from active to passive and vice versa.
Change clauses to phrases and vice and versa.
Change parts of speech.
 A good paraphrase will combine a number of strategies; the goal is to rephrase the information so that it appears in your words, not those of the original author.
Remember when paraphrasing you also need to include an in-text citation and a corresponding entry in your list of references.

The discussion forum provides an excellent opportunity to engage with your peers in critical exchanges on a specific topic. Here you are given the chance to learn from each other, sharing ideas and experiences as you would in a classroom environment enriching your learning experience.
Below are a few basic tips to help you get started in the discussion forums:
Follow directions
Stay on topic
Proofread everything before posting
Follow the rules of netiquette
Write in academic English and not text-talk
Spell check
It can often be quite scary making that first post but, don’t forget you are all in the same boat. In addition, by getting started sooner rather than later you will hopefully become more confident in your own ability and become to really enjoy this part of your studies.
