here you are, @konatadmc-new! thanks so much for the prompt! hope you enjoy this small hurt/comfort piece (bc ngl it was difficult to keep this one within 300 words lol). (from this 300-word challenge)
Never was fond of December, Yu Narukami thought, as he gripped the front of his coat with a freezing fist. It was buttoned all the way but that didn’t seem to be doing him a lick of good in this weather. The city’s winters were certainly less brutal. Even with his scarf, his spine shivered with another gust of wind as he neared the end of the Inaba Municipal Hospital block.
The sun had long ago set now that the days ended early, and the recent fog plaguing the town seemed intent on holding captive any form of light in order to keep its mercy from reaching the life below it. It made the bite of winter feel worse. Everything. It made everything feel worse.
He rounded the corner and nearly bowled Yosuke over, both of them leaping away with surprised yelps muffled by the icy air rushing into their lungs.
Yosuke’s eyes were wide and his shoulders were piled with snow.
Yu let him buy them both Aiya’s and remained politely silent when he noticed how small of a portion Yosuke had ordered for himself. He made up for it by sneaking some of his into Yosuke’s bowl when he wasn’t looking. Yosuke was too busy talking to notice, of course; he always was. The only light beneath the fog.
When Yosuke stood, Yu surprised even himself by reaching out to grab his jacket cufflink, a request for Yosuke to stay already out of his mouth.
His eyes remained trained on the place his bowl used to be before Yosuke picked it up. He refused to observe Yosuke’s blush . . . or acknowledge his own. “I can’t sleep without you here.”
The empty plastic containers Yosuke held shifted in his grip.
Eventually, he says sure, and Yu lets his cufflink go.
