ooh this ones fuN - I plan on going into it a lot in the dreaded big dump though also! but eeee!!!! basically a reworded attempt at a synopsis of that section though ;;
(thank you for the ask too! ;o;)
all below cut because uh a little lengthy :,)
A lot of it for him was convincing his parents to let him. His parents are pretty overprotective, and were very hesitant to even apply him, but a wholleee lotta annoying pleading and his mom (sorta snuck behind dad's back to but) applied him for UA.
As far as the exam, it actually went sorta well (minus the end)?? Like, his written he was certainly in a higher grade of scores already, he had been preetty obsessed with hero work since he found out about it, and his mom being a former sidekick knew a few things already and helped him prepare.
The practical was a bit more... mixed. He couldn't directly hurt the mechs, (or anything) as his quirk is basically just "haha bright ur blind noww" But what he could do is screw with their senses. Because robots,, they can be good, and fantasy logic or whatever, but like I'm still... simple brains in complex worlds; they suck at existing in the physical world, and can be messed up easy peasy. He figured out how their detections work, and used that to trick them into breaking themselves running into stuff or whatever. It doesn't take much for a robot to be fooled.
Because his quirk is probably worse for other test takers than robots, he tried to keep a distance from other test takers, leading to a final score with less rescue points unfortunately. (spelling??? idk.)
He was doing quite well but... by nature of his quirk, towards the end he was running pretty rough. Dominoes or butterflies effect or whatever, and he grew pretty panicked, as one would be in a hairy situation. Because he'd used his quirk so much for the exam, and a lot of stardust was around, he ended up accidentally discovering the one extreme thing I described in the post where he explodes. While he scored more points for destroying a good few robots at once,, he was out. Which fortunately for him, the exam was nearly over anyways.
His parents were pretty freaked out,, yeah-- there was a lot of talk around it but they came to an agreement, and once he got the acceptance letter, Hoshizawa was able to continue at UA!
