Why does anyone think this is ok???
Other than my profile picture there isn't a single selfie (it's not like I'm posting "thirst traps") on my IG and I never once mentioned that I had any interest in finding someone new. I understand that some people just want to strike up friendships but in my time online I guarantee you that that is a VERY small percentage of these. People who just want friends tend to comment and like and let a friendship build naturally... I have yet to EVER experience an unsolicited message from a man that didn't turn creepy, inappropriate, or misogynist (or a mix of all three!) pretty darn quick.
Am I being judgmental? Sure... But I'm also being smart and acknowledging what my nearly two decades of internet experience has taught me before I end up with creepy unsolicited dick pics, getting called fat, being sworn at, etc just because I engaged with a man who wanted to hit on me when I don't want to be hit on.
If you want a new internet friend, take some time and leave thoughtful comments on their stuff... Hopefully they will end up a mutual and will do the same for you. At which point enjoy the friendship!
But I guarantee that is NOT what is happening here.
Men: Unless the post or tag expressly says it's ok or that she's seeking that, do not hit on women online unsolicited... Go get in OkCupid for that shit. It's creepy and intrusive.
