14. how do they display affection?
gift-giving is her favorite method ; she will brink back gemstones from her travel and will offer them with a comment such as, they made me think of you, or it's the same color as your eyes. she did not have a lot while growing up, was hungry more often than she was content, so she knows for a fact that objects ; little trinkets that do not necessarily have value, can mean a lot. she remembers a lady who offered a small ribbon when she was ten and stealing food to survive, a ribbon which, in hindsight, was terribly ugly ___ but ishtar had nothing else, and she held on to it for as many years as the ribbon lasted, because it symbolized a moment of kindness and those, she could not collect while wandering the continent. they have to be offered, and that is what she does with her gifts.
her second method, which is reserved for people she really is close to, is touch : a hand on the shoulder or the cheek, braiding someone's hair, staying so terribly close even if there is no need. she is like a cat, demanding attention and offering affection in exchange. she can be incredibly tactile, whether the relationship is romantic or not, but she will only surrender to her instincts if she knows she can trust the person and if she feels like she is not alone feeling this way ___ otherwise, she'll stay a few feet away, prefering distance to rejection.
15. do they make snap judgements or take time to consider?
ishtar is calculating. how can she not be, when her most powerful weapon is knowing how things might go in the future ? she takes her time, never feels rushed by a clock that has stopped for her a long time ago. urgency is weakness and she has learned that the hard way, running around, hoping to stop time, hoping to cheat fate ; she is not that kid anymore, and she has learned to tame her impatience. when talking to people, she often takes time to ponder her words __ it is an infuriating habit for her interlocutors, as the world often mistakes calm for dishonesty. still, she prefers to consider, to take into account all the pieces of information at her disposal before expressing any judgement.
however, her impatience resurfaces from time to time : a friend who betrays her, an event she was so sure she had managed to erase from fate's tapestry ___ when failure is obviously hers to claim & when the pain is terribly personal, her restlessness gets the best of her & she makes snap judgements, prefering to act too fast rather than fail at acting. it's the panic, paranoia blurring the rest of the world, forcing her to act before thinking __ a way to overtake fate, for no one can forecast something you had not predicted yourself. it is a weakness, and that is why she prefers not to get to close to people in general.
