Okay so from my recent posts, it's clear that I just finished Unknown Caller: The High School Catfish. And I just have to say that I really do not think this documentary should have been aired.
For one thing, Kendra clearly drove the family into the ground financially. Shawn and Lauryn don't seem to have very much money, and it feels very unethical for a doc team to approach them and offer that lifeline if they talk about the most traumatizing thing ever to happen to their family.
Second, Lauryn is still a minor at the time the doc has aired. Owen and Khloe are also presumably still minors. Having them get on camera and talk about extremely traumatic experiences they had at 14 (3 years ago) when they haven't had time to process it is nuts. Sure, maybe they wanted to be in the documentary - but, I'm sorry, they're children and this should have waited until they were adults old enough to make that choice.
I also find it really weird and disgusting that Kendra's comments about Owen were uncensored. I know that it was part of the story, and I understand why the texts had to be there, but I think some of them (particularly the ones talking about his genitalia) could have been censored. We are talking about a child. His dignity should come first. (Also, WHY are we not labeling Kendra as a pedophile onscreen!?!! Why wasn't that even investigated?? This woman should be on every list.)
This documentary was clearly made with minimal care for the victims. Khloe's parents are well within their rights to dislike all the Licaris, I get it, but putting them onscreen talking shit about a severely traumatized 14 year old giel whose mom told her to kill herself AND THREATENED TO KILL HER is nuts. Again, no beef with Khloe's parents for their feelings- Khloe was handed a bad hand here too - but like... the doc team should not have edited that in I'm sorry.
Edit: it also just hit me that Kendra was probably paid for her interview. So. I would recommend that you 🏴☠️ this is you want to watch it.

HAPPY ACTUAL HALLOWEEN! I decided that I've given Mike a LOT of attention, so maybe I'd give a Ghostface the spotlight for a change. Which Ghostface? I dunno. I'm partial to either Stu Macher or Richie Kirsch. (Because Mathew Lillard & Jack Quaid are awesome.) As a fairly big fan of the SCREAM series, I know that the various Ghostfaces have been cloning numbers since forever to get potential victims to answer, but for the sake of this gag, I felt it was a funny enough twist on the formula. And yeah, I DO not answer unknown numbers. How I survived the 70s, 80s and early 90s I'll never know. lol
< A random piece of paper flutters on the hot evening breeze. At first glance, it appears to be an archived tax form; but anyone who picks it up realizes it’s some kind of deranged self portrait. Flipping it over does reveal the title: “Balance Sheet Self,” signed “A. D.” >
< A phone rings back at the office. >
Hello? Yes, it’s me. Yes, I’m in my office. No, I rarely ever leave. You must have come during my lunch break. No, I wasn’t hiding under my desk.
You found what?
Hang on… Look— I’m sorry, I was just bored. I’m sorry about your unflattering depiction. And I know that’s not the name I’m supposed to use. But really, it’s hardly a name, just some letters! And who would ever pick it up? A fed wandering about, picking up trash? Unheard of, really.
< They laugh awkwardly, expectantly. But the other side of the line is unamused. >
No, I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to talk back. I’m sorry about that.
Please don’t take my one day off.
< The line clicks off, and the Tax Agent buries their head in their hands. >
