Looking forward to #kathrynbigelow #detroit #movie @dorothyknows was not too far away and writes in #dhmstory how #racial tensions were high during that time. She was dealing with sensitive people in nearby #saginaw and was unknowingly ahead of her time. She resigned because her employers couldn't see what she could. It was easily the most difficult chapter she had to write in her #book. Very #healing for her. But she dared to write it anyway even took a trip to revisit Saginaw in early 2000's and talk to those she knew back then. I found one of them who published independent #unitedpower #newspaper, 30 of which my Mom saved that I have kept and I printed a few in the book. He has fond memories of my Mom decades later. I showed her his photo and she reacted. She still knows faces..Never easy to revisit painful past but she dared to do it.
