the problem with being asked to wait in a somewhat nondescript windowless room, with just the papers he was given and his own mind for company, is that fionn starts thinking he's in trouble. it feels remarkably like being called in to see the headteacher, or his father, or what he imagines a police interview might be like. being allowed to keep his phone negates that last part a little, but he's pretty sure he was only allowed to keep his notebook because his writing's indecipherable to anyone else.
