Week 10 - Final Self Evaluation
Overall it has been a special but not so enjoyable journey. It is the longest project I have worked on, and I think the duration of this project and its cross-course collaborative nature created many unexpected difficulties that I have not experienced before. Normally I’m a fast worker and love to finish everything in a short period of time when I feel inspired and motivated. But this project really challenged my patience and time-management skill. Group working wasn't too hard for me but this time it is. Because it requires mutual endeavors of each member and some member in our group weren’t very easy to collaborate with.Â
Some main responsibilities I listed for this collaborative project:
A. Enquiry. The ability to look deeply into the brief/question.
I believe we all did well, maybe a little bit too much at the beginning. We’ve had too much discussion on initial ideas (and being very indecisive) that has wasted our time for improving the final product better.Â
B. Cooperation, as helping each other when they’re busy or unavailable.
As a group consisting members from 3 different courses, there must be a time where someone has a deadline or being sick and is unable to work. Other members should be helpful and responsible for catching them up and helping them do/arrange their works so the group wont fall behind. I believe Eric, Serena and I did well when we can’t reach the other two members for weeks.Â
C. Knowledge. Understanding of the brief.Â
Always come back to the brief, in this case, the “sustainable” is the key.Â
D. Punctuality, of tutorials, deadlines and group meetings.
In group projects, punctuality is the first thing that allow you to understand if your members are responsible people or not. Especially in tutorials which something is quite optional and easy to catch up later.Â
E. Responsiveness, to group messages.
In group projects, responsiveness in group chats is the second thing that let you understand your members’ responsibleness. Someone may be punctual every-time but when they are off-campus you simply can’t find them anywhere.Â
F. Efficiency, as time management.
If one fails to manage his/her time, then everyone in the group will be victims of this. Group working is like a big machine, if one part fails, the entire work will be paused and fall behind.Â
G. Realization. Reflection on our works, be critical.Â
Sometimes people are blind when comes to assess their own works. When there are definitely things can be improved, how can they say “it’s nice, I like that”? On the other hand, someone who’s always feeling low self-esteem tends to underestimate their work and being to critical. It’s being responsible to ourselves to correctly assess our own works so that we know whats to improve in the future and meanwhile we won’t be trapped in depressive emotions.
H. Common Goal. Realizing our common goal and interests.
In group works you have to realize that everyone’s working towards a common goal. You can’t be self interested because we’re all on the same boat. If people don’t understand this the group will lack unity and finally become individual project.Â
Self Evaluation Form:
Knowledge: Knowledge and Critical Understanding of key subject concepts and debates and of the way in which these concepts and debates have developed.Â
It is quite clear to understand the concepts and key knowledges of this brief and I believe we have done well. The discussion around sustainability is consistent throughout the phrases of this project, from the initial concept of should we approach a political/environmentalist goal or should we just keep our material and making process sustainable, to the end while we are making our product which material to choose, their origin, and in the future how long do they last. Also we had discussion around our target audience, the price, etc. I believe we discussed these topics thoroughly and applied well.
Enquiry / Communication: An ability to explore this specific field of enquiry in order to progress your emerging research methodology.
In this Sustainable Souvenir Project, we have challenged the definition of a souvenir. Exploring many possibilities of a traditional souvenir, a souvenir made out of cliched souvenirs, a souvenir that contains only experience, etc. Also, we always question ourselves, how sustainable it could be? How conceptual could we and should we be? What’s the depth should we go into the city of London? Â
Process / Realization: An ability to use reflection and self-evaluation to make decisions and take responsibility for your own learning.
This project has a brief weekly self reflection report which helps us to learn from our own experiences. For me, the most part of this project is working in a group and collaborating with people coming from different areas. I have well experienced this collaborative process and encountered numerous occasions that the product and my group members can go to unexpected directions and creating problems. The process of solving these problems are mostly frustrating, but I did learn form these. I believe in group works, you can always and can only rely on your own.Â

(not my game, link here https://jimmybg.itch.io/small-world)
My main issue with it is the title on the front cover is a little bit to far to the left and there needs to be more info on how to download the game.
Final photography shoot: Distortion
-For my final photography shoot of Unit 5 I was given the freedom and choice to select a source of inspiration for my shoot and whether it was fine art or fashion photography.
-I used Pinterest to research and collect inspiration from different photographers and decided to create a fine art shoot that took inspiration from Bruno Metra and Laurence who captured a series of portraiture images that involved cut outs of magazines replacing the models natural features- this symbolises how society, particularly the media, keeps creating new expectations of beauty which means there is no definitive type of media although people still face enormous amounts of pressure to look "beautiful".
