B minor Mass 25 June 2022

The lecture yesterday felt a bit easier than the others and I think that’s cause I’m finally getting my head around all the com;scatted scientific aspect of it. Professor Han has started summarizing the whole course and preparing us for our final project which will be either to write a research proposal or an essay applying what we have learnt to our degrees.

After lunch I went for lunch with Roxanne and we seem to have a new favourite which are the sweet and sour pork balls from the restaurant in Global village. I absolutely love sweet and sour chicken but for some reason they don’t serve it so this is as close as it gets and its very good.

I also tried the dessert there and I don’t know if I’ve already mentioned it but dessert is not a thing here in Beijing! I have not been able to find a restaurant that sell good desserts of any kind with the exception of Pizza hut. I tried the black forest cake which tasted nothing like it should, or rather as I’m used to. Its refuse to give up my search for dessert and I will let you know if I find any good ones before we leave.

In the  evening we went to the famous Silk Street which as the name implies was a market filled with silk scarves, silk dresses, silk ties,  and everything silk you can imagine.

Despite all the attention Silk Street gets I must admit we have been to better markets here in Beijing. It just wasn’t as lively and although there was a wider range to choose from the prices were ridiculously high but It was still nice to look around. It wasn’t too long before we were all hungry and searching for food. We found a restaurant that serve hot pots which everyone raves on about. Its basically a pot with a hot soup base put over a stove and you put your food to cook as you eat. You put your vegetables, noodles and meat in, wait for about 5 minutes and take them out. That was the easy part! Figuring out how to translate that we had no idea how it works to the waitress was a mission and a half until an American lady on the opposite side helped by explaining to us. I can’t imagine how long we would have sat there trying to figure it out without her help.

I have never tried a hot pot before but after today I  definitely want to.

After dinner we went stumbled across the LG twin towers which were just outside the Silk Street market. We also found a Starbucks and in an another attempt to find a good dessert I bought a vanilla cheesecake that turned out to be awful and also  tasted nothing like a vanilla cheesecake!! But I’m still not giving up! I will find a good dessert.
