First project - self portrait film initial ideas
For my first project, I was told to make a self portrait film to introduce myself to the class and to get an idea of my editing style. My first initial thought for this project was to mix in the Sims 4 with me. I had an idea of using a loading screen from the Sims 4 to introduce my film, which cut to the front of a house. I filmed the beginning of the shots, including the sound which would overlap the clips from the Sims 4 game, by using a pan looking up to the sky and coming down onto the house. I thought this would look good while filming, however when it came to editing, nothing really fitted. The music went on too long and the clip of the house wasn’t right. I tried to re-film it to make the pan quicker but it looked too rushed and I wasn’t pleased with the result. Also, supporting this, I couldn’t figure out what to put for the voice over, as Sims don’t talk in English. After this, I went to my next favourite, American Horror Story, so I decided to use the beginning credit music as the background and cut it down to 30 seconds, as this is how long the self portrait had to be. I decided to use editing that went to the beat of the film, use dark make up on light, powdery skin to make it look more ghostly, which goes with the theme for the first season of American Horror Story. I believe this went well with the distorted editing, which went to the beat of the soundtrack.  As an introduction, I decided to use the pan which I was planning to use for the Sims 4 self portrait and use a jump cut from the house to the house number by using the distorted editing. This was the base of my self portrait film and my initial ideas.
