I’ve found that trackball keyboards are mighty useful for working on servers or raspberry pi’s. While an original PS/2 M5-1 or M5-2 would need 2 USB adapters to do that job, the modern black Unicomp you see in the first photo is natively USB and has an internal hub so you only need to find a single free port.
That being said, I daily the trackball model because I can.

I use the IBM Model M keyboard even at work and everybody around (open space) hates me because of its sound :)
I made my fair share of enemies with my Model M back in college, considering late night programming is unavoidable. However, my Unicomp 104 trackball doesn’t bother my coworkers, since each of them has their own specialty keyboard on their desk. They get it, so they don’t question the sound.
I really wish the New Model M came in a trackball model, I'm likely to still go with it over ordering something else with a trackball when I have my new computer.
Because honestly it probably wouldn't kill me to try and get over how unused to mice I am ! I've never actually gotten to use a left handed mouse & that may have something to do with it- but there would probably be a learning curve due to lack of practice. I do have a tiny (right handed) mouse for things that specifically need one already, but I do preferentially use almost everything else you can instead.
Could also go the "Get A Giant Trackball or Trackpad" route instead though, bc I don't think unicomp is adding lil trackball integration as an add-on option in the next couple months

i hate my current keyboard, you know of any old mechanical ones that can work with a current windows machine?
Personally, I’m a fan of authentic IBM Model M’s, and as long as the machine has a PS/2 port, then you can use those from MS-DOS all the way up through Windows 10 because a keyboard is a keyboard as far as its concerned.
However, PS/2 to USB adapters don’t tend to work too well with Model M’s because of their higher-than-usual power consumption. There are solutions, but specific adapters have to be used.
If you need a USB keyboard, there’s always Unicomp’s Model M replicas. They took over the rights and tooling to make new keyboards in the same pattern, and they tend to work just as well. Plus, they have more options than the original ones.
I can’t speak on behalf of non-buckling spring mechanical switches, like Cherry MX ones... you’ll have to ask somebody who knows about those if that’s the option you want to go with. All I know is that they provide switch variety, but they’re not nearly as loud as a buckling spring.
One of my xmas presents this year was a little 4.3" TFT LCD display that happens to work well with Raspberry Pi's. After a few days of tinkering with it to get it to display anything at all, I was able to get it to spring to life.
Seen here, it's hooked into my Raspberry Pi B+ with my Unicomp Classic 104 keyboard, as well as an RS232 adapter (which isn't hooked into anything at the moment). The display itself needs some settings tweaks so I can read the text a little better, because currently I find it very difficult.
I wonder how hard it would be to power this screen via USB so I can use it in my car. Or better yet, power it off of a battery pack along with the Pi.
