WHEN SHE GETS HOME, the scent hits her like a battering ram, right in the face. it curls around her stomach and squeezes. the house has been SILENT for weeks, its inhabitants like mere strangers tiptoeing around each other. but there is spaghetti sauce on the stove and it means something. she slips out of her heels, sets down her bag, and then steps into the kitchen. he has the spoon lifted to his mouth for a TASTE and his work trousers still on. the dress shirt and tie have been abandoned. the sight of him leaves her aching. â i hope you havenât been double dipping, â are her first words to him in far too long.
