y'know... maybe i'm reading too much into it, but Undertone (2025) felt very Filipino Catholic to me—from Evy's deep utang na loob towards her mama (and her usage of "mama" instead of "mom") to her feelings towards her unplanned pregnancy (though she made an appointment with the women's clinic, there seemed to be a lot of residual guilt there). even the religious decorations spread throughout the house screamed Pinoy to me, so much so that i spent a good chunk of the film wondering why Tuason chose the actors that he did. Nina Kiri did a fantastic job as Evy, but given how culturally Filipino the story seemed to me, i can't help but wonder why he chose a non-Filipino to play the part.

I know this is supposed to be a review of the movie, but I think the buildup through the marketing campaign was an important part of my theatrical experience. I had only caught the trailers in theaters before watching other films and was remarkably impressed by the sound design, specifically the use of surround sound. At the end of each trailer, there would be a whisper that would sound as if it were right behind one of your ears. That stuck with me so much that this became one of my more anticipated horror movies for the first half of the year. As for the film itself, it was good. That sound design was even greater than what was displayed in the trailers. I tried to find who exactly was the lead sound technician, but have not been successful. I might well add to this review later when I find out as they might be the most important individual to the overall quality of the film. That is to say while the core performances range from fine to quite good, the story and scripting are only passable. Perhaps less so on a repeat viewing, but that's speculation. There is a lot of repetition in the middle of the film. There are most certainly great spooky moments, but they are connected by somewhat dull plot progression. I would be remiss to mention how every reviewer I spoke with had wonderful things to say about the last scene, and I am no exception. That finale was designed and edited in a manner that it has the capacity to injure small animals. It was the single most stressful isolated sequence from a film that I have seen this year at the time of writing this. While there is one other film that will stress me far more as a whole, no one section of 10 minutes had me closer to heart palpitations than that of the last 10 minutes of this film. I think you would like this film if you want an example of what wonders can be achieved with modern sound design, or if you are looking for a good unnerving time and are patient.
I thought Undertone was really good. As someone who used to listen to a lot of creepy podcasts about the supernatural, the occult, and true crime, especially ones with great audio production, this movie reminded me a lot of those shows that I haven’t revisited in years. Honestly, it kind of made me want to go back and listen to some of them again.
I thought this was very creepy, especially because so much of it relies on audio. When you can’t actually see something and your mind has to fill in the blanks, I think it’s way scarier. The same thing happens with podcasts and audiobooks. Audio can really mess with your imagination in a way that visuals sometimes can’t. What Undertone does really well is combine that podcast style storytelling with the format of a feature film.
There are a lot of unsettling moments, creepy vibes throughout, and an overall feeling of dread that worked for me. I wasn’t completely blown away by it, but I still thought it was very solid and very well done.
I also saw that this writer and director will be doing the next Paranormal Activity movie, and honestly, I think that’s a perfect choice after watching this.
Overall, I’d recommend checking it out. I rented it, and I definitely felt like it was worth the rental. I was entertained the whole way through.
Bingung pilih shade lipstik yang cocok? Ini panduan lengkap memilih warna lipstik sesuai undertone & skin tone kamu biar makeup makin flatte
Cara Pilih Shade Lipstik Yang Cocok Sama Warna Kulit — Biar Nggak Salah Beli Lagi
pernah nggak beli lipstik karena shade-nya cantik banget di orang lain — eh pas dipakai sendiri malah bikin wajah keliatan kusam atau pucat? 🥲 aku sering banget.
dulu koleksi lipstik aku banyak, tapi cuma 2-3 yang beneran cocok. sisanya nyangkut di laci. buang-buang duit. ternyata kuncinya bukan "warna yang cantik" — tapi warna yang cocok sama undertone & skin tone kamu.
langkah 1: cek undertone kamu dulu 🔍
gampang banget, lihat urat di pergelangan tangan (di cahaya alami ya, bukan lampu kuning):
🟦 urat biru/ungu → cool undertone
🟢 urat hijau → warm undertone
🟣 campuran → neutral undertone
bonus: perhiasan silver lebih cocok = cool, gold lebih cocok = warm.
🟫 neutral undertone → fleksibel banget! hampir semua cocok. paling fail-safe pilih shade MLBB (my lips but better).
bonus per skin tone: kulit sawo matang & gelap itu blessing buat lipstik — bisa carry warna bold & deep yang stunning (deep berry, brick red, bold red). jangan takut warna berani! 💕

Just now watched this movie! For me it was scary in the start and the middle, but towards the end, right when the climax was happening, i didn't find it scary 😂 and just thought it was a little ridiculous and childish lol.
Tho gotta say I don't feel bad for Evy at all cause why tf she didn't let Justin stop 😒 like bruh, u saw creepy things happening in ur home and were still being like 'this is a hoax' and 'lets listen it's good stuff' and shit 😂. So fucking dumb omg, I hate these kinda characters. Not only did she go down but also took Justin with her. Tho ig Justin is also at all, cause if it was me, i would have just told her to listen by herself and would dip 🤣
Also, one another dumb stunt of Evy that truly pissed me off was repeating the phrase "Come in, Abyzou" so many times like crazy with the recording! Like bitch wtf? 😭 That was some truly stupid af shit. Like i get repeating it once or twice outta curiosity but chanting it like u r tryna summon that demon was so stupid! 😂🫠 She had it coming ngl. After all, she did everything to make herself the perfect prey for that demon.
So yeah, it was a passable watch. Not very amazing but not horrendous either. Just a stupid MC horror movie 😂
