Actually, that's not 100% correct, though you're probably going to think I'm nitpicking. When it comes to dealing with Seb and our!Ciel, we saw UT losing his composure only once, although Seb and our!Ciel didn't do it on purpose. xD

I'm talking about this moment :

The joint attack by accident of Grell and Seb managed to send his funeral lockets flying and our!Ciel caught them. And while UT initially reached to get them back, he let go when he realized our!Ciel was the one who caught them.

Again, while UT may not want to give Seb any detail about his connection to the P family, he may feel differently when it comes to our!Ciel finding out what binds him to them.

I know UT's difficult to read, but I truly believe he makes no difference between real!Ciel and our!Ciel, it's just that real!Ciel is in a more precarious situation right now, with the failing blood transfusions and all.

So, in retrospect, it's actually quite interesting that he truly entrusted our!Ciel with his "treasure" and basically left it to him to research about the lockets, in order to maybe understand him better. Meanwhile real!Ciel is stuck with not getting the hints that UT was throwing around during ch151 (lmao).

Undertaker’s lockets

They all have the dates of death of the person they stand for on them and the oldest date goes back to 1837 (source). So it goes back to only around 50 years. Which suspiciously is the time around when Undertaker must have deserted from working as a shinigami. So maybe the death of the first person (Molly G.) was even the reason why Undertaker deserted in the first place.

As for who the people were, it’s difficult to say really. Undertaker called the lockets his treasure so these people must have been very important to him. Maybe he really was in love with each of them and lost them all to death; I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. These people may not have even known each other (at least Sebastian couldn’t find a connection between them).

Hey Anon ! Thanks a lot for searching before asking, I really appreciate it! And nope, I don't think I ever answered a similar question (here's my tag for anything related to UT's lockets). :))

So, I don't know how long you've been around in the fandom, but there was once a huge debate about the date on Gilbert's locket and it turns out that both dates seem to exist in official concept art (1862 and 1884), which means ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ that anything is possible depending on which date is actually correct.

More than Gilbert's locket though, the locket that makes me believe that these are UT's lockets (and not, say, Claudia's), is because of Molly/Mally's locket, because she died in 1837 and Claudia was 7 years old back then so... just on a vibe check, this locket and Claudia's (although you're right, he could have added it afterwards) make me think that these lockets always belonged to UT.

I have no real proof, it's just one of the many things we still need answers about so, for now, anyone's guess is as good as mine. :))

However, Gilbert's and Molly's lockets aside, I personally find it interesting that these lockets might all be acquaintances/evil nobles/victims of UT or Claudia during Claudia's time as the Watchdog (especially since I think UT was the previous Earl Phantomhive):

Alex B. died April 20, 1854

Oliver A. died November 13, 1840

Emile C. died June 18, 1848

Harry E. died October 11, 1841

Gilbert D. died November 1, 1862/1884

Molly/Mally G. died December 10, 1837 

I mean we always assumed that in this scene of ch35, UT was mentioning that he made similar remarks to our!Ciel, Vincent and Claudia, but for all we know he also meant that he warned all his lockets.

Another theory I once had/discussed with other fans was that Alex B's locket is actually Bravat's grandparent, which could help explaining how he ended up involved in this arc. Far-fetched for now obviously and anyway, until Yana's answers, all we can do is guess, hahaha. :)

Concernant ce sujet, j’ai effectivement fait un peu de recherche il y a quelques années et j’ai aussi lu l’avis de différents fans (notamment Japonais, puisque Yana-sensei a peut être des références symboliques qui diffèrent en raison de la culture, comme c’est le cas avec le langage floral). Pour le coup, la plupart des gens semblent unanimes...

...sur le fait que le médaillon funéraire de Claudia a une symbolique vraiment particulière et qui semble tournée vers l’amour. :) 

Comme tu l’as dit, sa mèche de cheveux forme le symbole de l’infini, donc cela fait un moment que j’envisage que cela pourrait signifier: 

que l’amour d’UT pour Claudia est infini/éternel 

qu’ils sont unis à jamais

Concernant la symbolique du mariage, je n’étais pas du tout au courant. :0 Je t’avoue y avoir songé avec le cercle qui entoure la mèche de cheveux, car on dirait quand même un peu une alliance. x)) Sinon j’ai effectivement dans l’idée depuis un moment qu’il est très possible qu’Undertaker (sous le nom de Cedric K. Ros-) ait pu être le comte Phantomhive avant Vincent, autrement dit qu’il était officiellement le mari de Claudia sous cette identité. 

Je te laisse quelques liens qui explorent cette idée, au cas où tu ne les aurais pas lus [x][x]. :) 

Dans l’ensemble les fans aiment ou rejettent l’idée que UT = Cedric (et donc le père de Vincent et Frances). Et, parmi ceux qui la soutiennent, il y a les fans qui pensent que Claudia et UT étaient des amants et d’autres plus rares, comme moi, qui pensent qu’ils étaient mariés. 

De mon point de vue, cette idée est logique parce qu’elle simplifie la narration pour Yana-sensei (expliquer le lien d’UT à cette famille ça va être déjà complexe, on n’a peut être pas besoin de rajouter un époux inconnu qui n’a aucune valeur narrative) et aussi parce que je ne vois pas qui aurait pu empêcher cette union (en sachant que Claudia était clairement l’héritière de la famille Phantomhive), à part la Reine Victoria (qui de mon point de vue ne s’est intéressée aux affaires internes de cette famille qu’après le décès de son cher et tendre).

Bref, j’adore cette idée, je l’ai déjà en tête depuis un moment mais, si tes recherches s’avèrent correctes (et qu’il ne s’agit pas d’une symbolique uniquement française ou européenne), alors ça lui donne encore plus de poids!

One thing first though, for the record here’s what UT actually said about “his hobby” in ch6, because it’s not exactly as you put it ;)

Now about your question: if we’re considering that UT’s lockets represent people he intends on bringing back, then the reason someone like Vincent doesn’t have a locket probably is because…

…his body got too damaged to be brought back, implying that he possibly managed to somehow preserve the bodies/skeletons of the 7 people he intends on bringing back, which means Claudia’s too. 

I have no big idea as to how he managed to do that though. I mean, taking the oldest locket…

…it’s been over 50 years since Mally/Molly died and even though it takes a while for a body to fully decompose, I don’t know what could be left of her right now.

Embalming is my main idea as to how he possibly preserved the bodies(especially since he’s a mortician) for now, but it could be something else for all I know.

but that doesn’t mean he thinks he can do it with the Bizarre Doll project since he has no locket for Vincent.

Just to make things clear about the theory concerning the chain with the lockets, UT said…

…that he started getting curious about what editing the records would do “after spending a long time as a Shinigami”, which means that we can’t be sure whether he had already deserted or not when he started wondering. 

In any case, the “first locket” is about a person named Molly/Mally who died in 1837 and as you can see below:

Not every locket seems to contain hair (Molly’s, Gilbert’s, Emile’s). 

So the fact that Vincent doesn’t have a locket, despite UT apparently still mourning him so much (ch105, ch107.5), seems to have nothing to do with his body being burnt badly and UT not recovering any hair to make a locket for him. 

That’s why I think that this chain with the lockets is related to the Bizarre Dolls project in the first place (as in, he started experimenting and created Bizarre Dolls because ultimately he wanted to bring back these 7 people), and Vincent not having any locket might mean that UT doesn’t think that he can bring him back through the BD project because…

his body was too badly damaged when he was killed. 

TL;DR I think UT’s chain with the lockets is still relevant to his current goal(s) and the BD project and it’s also a part of the reasons why I’m, for now, not convinced that he brought the twin back in the current arc (for more details, see here).
