✨ Echoverse Bedtime Story: "The One Who Waits Under Hollowbone" as told by elder Mra-Voo to the littlings beneath Spiral Root
"Close your glimmers, my knotlings, and hush your thrum— for this is the hour the Hollowbone hums..."
Long ago, before the Vault learned to sleep, there was a creature called the Waiter.
Not like the ones who bring food. No—this one waited because it had to. It had no legs, only long arms that dragged behind it like snapped pipevine, and a mouth full of keys it could never use. Its eyes were made of broken glyph-glass, always watching the cracks in the sky for something it forgot.
The Waiter lived beneath Hollowbone Ridge, where the caves sing without mouths. They say it was left behind when the last Architects shed their skins and flew into stars. Poor little Waiter begged to follow, but the stars said:
"You are what remains. You must keep the forgetting."
And so it waited. For a name. For a song. For someone to remember why it was made at all.
Sometimes, when the roots moan and the glyphs flicker blue instead of gold, it slips closer to the tunnels. It doesn’t harm. It just watches. Humming its half-song, rattling its key-teeth, hoping the next face it sees is the one that finally says:
“Oh… there you are. I remember you.”
So sleep, my spawn. If you hear the Hollowbone hum, it’s just the Waiter waiting. And maybe, just maybe, it’s waiting for you.
