"The president must be held accountable," the House speaker said Tuesday. "No one is above the law."
Sooooo
formal impeachment inquiry, huh
I REALLY love the point he starts making at around 15:40, when he’s talking about Congress’ approval rating, and why someone would want to work in a place with such a low approval rating, etc. He starts talking about the idea of government and corrupt/bad governments - and at one point is talking about ppl who believe it’s their job to dismantle the government instead of improving/reforming it, and how they try to make it out to be someone else’s, that it’s separate from the people, that it’s corrupt - and actually says "and in many ways, I think it is. I believe it is. I believe this place is one of the most corrupt part of the whole thing.” etc etc. But one thing I like that he says esp is “but [our Founders] believed at their core was that, through our disagreements, we would forge more imaginative and more durable solutions than any king or tyrant could come up with on their own. That was their belief. That was their expectation. And I would our country, in many ways, has eclipsed any expectation they ever had of what America would become.”
"In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate," the president wrote to the speaker.

Pelosi fired the first volley against Trump earlier this week, when she wrote that his annual State of the Union address, originally slated for Jan. 29, should be postponed until after the full government reopens, citing, in part, security concerns.
Such a planned trip by Pelosi to a war zone had not been publicly announced, and would not be for security reasons. The speaker would use military planes for such travel, and that is what Trump is now denying her.
"Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative," Trump added in the letter.
Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement that while Trump's letter claimed Pelosi and Democrats were also traveling to Brussels and Egypt, the stop in Brussels was simply for pilot rest, where "the delegation was scheduled to meet with top NATO commanders, U.S. military leaders and key allies – to affirm the United States' ironclad commitment to the NATO alliance." A stop in Egypt was not on their agenda, Hammill said.
"The purpose of the trip was to express appreciation and thanks to our men and women in uniform for their service and dedication, and to obtain critical national security and intelligence briefings from those on the front lines," Hammill continued, pointing out that the president "traveled to Iraq during the Trump Shutdown as did a Republican CODEL led by" New York Rep. Lee Zeldin.
