“Eren saying he doesn’t know why he wanted the Rumbling just proves his character never changed” and “he’s always just been a scared, confused kid” are the worst takes I’ve seen. We know why he wanted to do the Rumbling. We know his motivations because we’ve literally seen his thoughts. If you don’t think Eren changed from being a confused kid, you need to read Uprising again. Then read chapter 90. Eren left his idealism, dreams, and adolescence at the ocean.

Not to mention the way he contradicts himself in the same chapter by first saying he started the Rumbling so the Alliance would be seen as heroes and be respected, only to later say he doesn’t know why he did it. Lmao, what? To have the main character of the story—whose motivations were previously laid out—say actually, he doesn’t know why he massacred 80% of humanity, after making it the center of an arc and climax of said story, is bad writing. It just doesn’t make sense. It throws Eren’s character in the trash for no reason. How can anyone say this is a satisfying end for him?
