Completely underestimated how tiring going to stressful medical appointment would be. Anxiety about the discomfort expected ate my spoons. Been hazy all afternoon since getting back and had to finish work early just to go have a lie down.
On the plus side I hit the jackpot of nurses for it, so patient and understanding. She did her best to put me at ease and make it least painful. Made such a difference to know (because she told me explicitly) that if it got too much I could tell her to stop. Because my past experience is of my pain/discomfort, and requests for reasonable things to reduce those, being dismissed/minimised by even nice seeming medical people.
Usually I come away from such appointments feeling not just uncomfortable physically but emotionally, disappointed yet again and most of all unheard. Each time that happens it makes me less likely to go back even though I need to for my health. Actually knowing I was in some way in control of what was being done this time helped me tolerate it a whole lot better. Yay for nurses who understand working with patients when things are difficult.
