ever  since  mount  weather,  matthias  have  had  trouble  sleeping.      that  certainly  didn’t  get  better  after  alie’s  control.      awoken  by  nightmares  more  often  than  not,   disrupting  his  sleeping  schedule.      but  for  once  that  hasn’t  happened.     the  first  thing  he  notices  as  he  begins  gaining  conciousness  again  is  warmth.     letting  himself  enjoy  that  for  as  long  as  it  lasts.     it  takes  a  few  moments  before  his  eyes  fully  open,    and  a  few  more to  understand  someone  is  in  his  arms.      blinking  he  recognizes  the  figure.    peyton,   right,   they  were  talking  yesterday  way  into  the  night.     matthias’s  lips  brush  against  her  temple,   almost  like  a  thank  you  for  staying  with  him,    and  his  grip  tightens  just  a  little.     he  doesn’t  have  to  be  to  the  medbay  until  noon  today  so  instead  he  stays  in  place  basking  in  the  comfort.    

a  sigh  escapes  his  lips,    taking  a  seat  next  to  peyton.     it  was  clear  that  a  lot  of  them  had  baggage.     he  understood  that,   it’s  not  like  he  wasn’t  running  from,  everything  really,  when  he  signed  up  for  the  eligius  mission.      “    i  know  we  don’t  really  know  each  other.   ”     not  things  that  aren’t  superficial,    not  what  really  matters.     having  focused  on  stopping  what  was  going  on  and  stopping  it,   rather  than  learning  about  each  other.      “     but  that  doesn’t  mean  i  don’t  care  if  you’re  upset.      ”      hand  reaches,   touching  briefly  at  her  arm  and  leaning  forward  to  look  her  in  the  eyes.      “     you  just  have  to  deal  with  it.      ”        lip  turns  upward  for  a  short  moment  as  his  tone  lightly  teases.

she’s  disoriented,   been  drifting  in  and  out  of  consciousness  for  a  while  from  the  awful  sickness.     peyton’s  voice  is  immediately  comforting,   hoping  it’s  not  just  the  fever  that’s  making  her  imagine  it.     “   peyton...   ”    the  name  exhaled  almost  in  relief.    trying  to  get  as  closer  as  she  can  with  half  opened  eyes.    they  used  to  do  this  a  lot  growing  up  on  the  ark.    sleepovers  being  a  respite  for  both  of  them.    each  other’s  company  being  enough,    until  it  wasn’t.    it  takes  her  a  few  minutes  to  realize  where  she  is  and  what’s  happening,   and  she  can’t  stop  the  worry  from  slipping  in  her  voice.      “    you’re  going  to  get  sick.   ”     immediate  protest  and  then,      “    are  you  already  sick  ?    ”
