Peter sits in the chair next to the bed, a lump in his throat that he can’t quite swallow. It’s the FIRST TIME he’s seen Kameyo since he’s gotten back– a part  of him hadn’t even wanted to look. He knows this is his fault, knows that HE did this. Maybe it hadn’t really been him, but Peter could have stopped it before Kameyo got hurt, and he DIDN’T. And now she’s here, still in a coma after everything. After Peter went up to space, and DIED, and returned after the defeat of Thanos. A part of him is even surprised he’s allowed in here. He hadn’t thought Umiko would WANT to see him at all, but she greeted him with open arms, and has been dealing with….his troubles ever since. Coming back from DEATH isn’t that easy.

                                                                  Neither is this.

He wants to look away, wants to get up and leave and STOP staring at what he did, but he can’t tear his gaze from her unconscious face. His hands grip the arms of the chair so tight his knuckles are white, and all of a sudden his eyes feel watery. That’s when a hand gently touches his shoulder with a reassuring squeeze, and Peter finally brings himself to look up, eyes landing on Umiko standing beside him. He’s overwhelmed with guilt, and even though she told him it’s okay, it doesn’t FEEL like it.

Peter hasn’t slept in days. It’s been starting to show, especially throughout the weeks when he hardly allows himself any rest as is. Dark circles rest underneath his eyes, and he’s much more scattered and reactive than usual. The excited, happy demeanor is gone, and instead he’s immersing himself in doing everything he can to try and FIND KAMEYO. It didn’t take long for him to notice she was missing, but it takes a while for him to track her down, growing more and more worried the entire time. She’s a hero too, but Peter can’t help feeling as if it’s somehow HIS fault. He should have stopped this before it happened. But he can’t reverse time, so at least he’ll try saving her now. 

      FINALLY, he locates where she’s being kept, and doesn’t waste a moment before heading there. Maybe he should’ve informed Mr. Stark of finding her, backup would definitely help, but he didn’t want to spare even a second. Besides, he isn’t sure if Mr. Stark would even let him go, and he HAS to save Kameyo himself– if something went wrong and he wasn’t there, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself for it.

45. My muse commits murder to save yours.

It happens in an instant. It’s supposed to be a relatively easy fight, not even that many enemies or imminent threats towards civilians– just an abandoned alleyway, Turtle Girl ( Kameyo, actually, he’s figured it out by now ), and Spider-Man. Although, he gets distracted for a moment, swinging around the corner to try and build up momentum, before he notices Kameyo practically cornered by the attacker. He has no doubt that she can fight him off, but protective instincts kick in ( he’s pretty sure he saw that guy with a knife, and he doesn’t seem like the type to HESITATE before harming her ), and he drops between them with a thud, fighting off the criminal to make sure Kameyo doesn’t get hurt. But with adrenaline pumping, and a desperation to keep her safe, he loses track of just how much STRENGTH he puts into it, and one hit sends the man flying backwards, and ends with a sickening CRACK that reverberates through the air, nearly leaving his ears ringing with a sudden anxious feeling settling in his stomach. 

He’s cautious with his next steps. One…two…three, he walks forwards, eyes trained on the man on the ground. Heart twists the moment he sees a sticky crimson liquid cover the concrete ( likely caused by how fast he hit the other building ), and a red-clad hand flies up to cover his mouth the moment realization sets in. He isn’t sure if he wants to cry or throw up– maybe BOTH– but his hands are shaking, overcome with sudden tremors, and it feels as if his legs are going to give out any minute. He killed him. Peter killed him. He took someone’s LIFE.
