â...Kevin, why is my briefcase in the fish tank?â
@umghostbusters
Louise had arrived late, reaching the dozen or so fellow players just in time for the middle aged âgame masterâ to explain the rules. It was simple enough: a set of teams, both semi-finalists, an impartial seeker and a count to fifty to hide around the half-block size area of park but she was only half listening to his spiel. Instead, her attention had instantly been snatched by one member of the opposing team: he was tall, built like a footballer and handsome. Frustratingly, distractingly handsome. Dragging her focus back, she glanced to the members of her own team and smirked, finding the majority of gazes resting similarly on the man across from them. It was quickly that their opponents dispersed, spreading and disappearing within the play area. Lou muttered a curse under her breath, nudging the woman beside her into action as the others slowly, hesitantly departed the group before jogging away in search of her own place to hide.

Kevin shushes the girl and pulls his hood over his face more, âIts cause I am the prince. I snuck out of the castleâŚâ
Raiâs eyes widened, looking around to make sure no one else was watching. âWhat are you doing here?â She asked in a whisper, pulling the prince by the arm into her shop. âAre you mad? Youâll have every guard in the kingdom here looking for you!â

RIP
Give Pete his comeuppance just reward.
Rebecca woke to a kiss, Ray to a match, and Kevin to a spectral cat perched by his head, nudging him with his nose.
Things had been slowing down for Peter. Heâd made a name for himself again, counseling people whose fears were awakened by ghosts, and helping ghosts to cross over (it really helped with the ECUâs storage capacity). But now he was tired, and he needed a rest.
Only an hour before, Peter had gone to bed, got comfortable, and let out his last sigh. Vigo had been the one to nudge him awake again.
The little blue eyed cat had died only a year before at an age far older than most cats ever got to be. Since then heâd been hiding out at Peterâs heels, a quiet spirit attached to one still living.
Peter had gotten up, looking around for the cat food in his stupor before realizing he was still in bed. Vigo meowed up at him and nudged his bodyâs pulse-barren wrist. He had to sit down, but found no physical relief in the action. The cat jumped onto his lap and purred.
A hand smoothed over spectral fur and held the cat close to his chest. âHey, Vigo. I missed you.â
Peter set the cat down and stood up. Something felt different. âIt doesnât hurt.â A grin came over his face.
âSorry, Vigo. I donât think youâre gonna have a lap to sit on so often anymore.â
The cat crossed the room and pawed at the door. Peter looked back at his body. âYou know, this is all new to me. Youâre gonna have to show me the ropes." A pause. Something nagged at the back of his mind."Somebodyâs gonna find meâŚâ his voice was low with awe. (It sounded strange. He wondered if he could even be heard.)
"You're right. We should go. Maybe let them down easy." There were three people in the world he knew who could possibly find him in his state.
He sat on the edge of Rebecca's bed, his dim green aura glowing on her face. She saw a young man, clean shaven and healthy. His dark hair was a little long, as he'd kept it for most of his life, but the curls floated like he was under water as he leaned down to kiss her cheek.
The loud scuff of a match against paper alerted Ray to someone in his room. Pete stood at the foot of his bed clad in coveralls and smoking a cigarette. Spectral smoke floated to the ceiling in a circle of dim light. He smiled, waved goodbye. A jar of mood slime near the bed bubbled with positive energy as he dissipated.
Vigo purred and nudged at Kevin's face.
"Wake up."
Was that Smartin's voice?
Kevin sat up to find Peter sitting at the foot of the bed, that old, weathered looking man he'd always known. He was dapper as ever, too, wearing his floppy hat and sporting a cane.
Vigo stepped over the covers and hopped into Peter's lap. He ran a hand over the cat's head.
"Kevin, I'm dead." He waited for the young man to signal understanding before he continued.
"I have to go away soon. I'm not strong enough to manifest for long. But I'll always be here. Okay?"
He reached down beside the bed and picked up Mike Hat. The dog had died even sooner than Vigo, and he knew Kevin missed him.
"Somebody wanted to say hi." The dog licked Kevin's face as the last of Peter's psychokinetic energy dissipated. Mike let out a joyful yip, and was gone.

He just shook his head laughing slightly, âIâm not really supposed to disagree with the king but his rules for you are a littleâŚodd. Did you know one of the rules I have to follow is remaining awake all night? He says its because of something from when you were little? Something about seeing a ghost? Is that why you are saying he thinks youâre crazy?â
âIâve lived out there before I became a guard for your family and believe me there is no excitement out there,â Kevin smirked a little, âBut if you wish to see then Iâll take you. Just sneak out and we can hide your identityâ
Erin sighed at that, turning away from the window to look at Kevin with apologetic eyes. âPlease tell youâre not actually following that rule.â She asked worriedly. âThe ghost stopped haunting me over a decade ago... I donât think sheâs going to come back.â She sounded a little indignant as she spoke, something she was well-aware of. She expected Kevin to believe her - after sheâd gotten over her initial bisexual panic and her disastrous last-ditch attempt at heterosexuality, the two had actually become sort of friends - but still... Her own father didnât. There was no guarantee one of her closest friends wouldnât also label her insane.
âIt canât be more dull than inside these palace walls.â Erin replied almost pleadingly. âPlease, Kevin. I just want to see what itâs like.â

Kevin groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. He brought a hand to cover his eyes from the light then noticed the IV in his arm. It caused panic to set in once he realized he was in the hospital. The younger man looked around the room in fear then he spotted Peter, âSmartin! Hey, wake up! Whatâs going on?!â
Peter gasped, clutching his cane to his chest as he woke, but then sighed as he realized where he was. He swept back the tuft of hair on top of his head to feign nonchalance.
"You're fine, Kevin. It's a precaution. Post-possession effects can be pretty gnarly if you're not prepared for them."
