I’ve loved it vividly, and wonderingly, and been moved by the fearless scale of its humanity and peril. I’ve loved it for its magic, and the way it brings me back to the most innocent of times, when I was afraid of the dark but not repulsed by it, when I longed to be a hero and thought it was possible.

And let me tell you something else--I still love it. Because it still moves me to wonder and tears and absolute excitement, and it is beautiful and terrifying and so, so good and pure. It shows darkness to be darkness and light to be light, and it shows mercy and complexity in its discovery of the secrets of history and earth, as well as of the heart.
