Hey, y’all got any advice on selling art? ^^’
I’m in a bit of a financial pinch at the moment...
...surgery coming up, couple thousands’ worth of student debt, my PhD studentship is a piss-poor minimum wage while taking up my entire working week, and accommodation is horrendously expensive where I live. I’m already trying to get some freelancing work done with some tiny graphic design or translation jobs, but the earnings from such are, well, you can guess.
Okay so I know that the first step to selling art in any shape or form is to actually be GOOD at it lol. I know my art isn’t nearly good to being close enough to pass for something that is sell-able, but I’m really planning on getting my shit together and practise and learn intensively. I’ve seen people go from 1 to 100 in terms of skill real quick so maybe I could give that a go, since I’m like... 3, maybe lol.
Anyway, supposing you’re done with step 1, what next? I know some people sell their arts as prints on posters or whatnot, or other places where people can buy items like pillows or mugs or bags with an artwork. You guys got any experience? Which sites are more legit than other, which ones take a smaller % from what you make? Any particular tips, what to watch out for? Anything? But that’s for digital art; anyone has experience with selling actual ‘hardcopies’ lol, like painting on canvases?
I mean it’s not terrible right now, I’m not living on the streets, but I need to get rid of this debt and I wanna save up a bit too. Wanna do something else, save up for at least even a small trip somewhere, see something, do something for myself. I’m almost 24, and all I’ve ever known really was school and studying and I’m kinda bitter about that now. Wasted my teenage years on not making any memories, so don’t wanna waste (all) my 20′s too lol.
Anyway, that was a digression lol.
Many thanks for any info guys ;-;
