Love it when people use "media literacy is dead" to... defend rape jokes in media? Okay. "It's the character making this joke; that doesn't mean the author supports it/finds it funny." Okay... We're going less vague, posts were about the scene compilation of Angel being hit by Val.

But to specifically bring up rape jokes. Besties. Rape jokes in the Hellaverse. And you think this will make it seem like the authors... don't enjoy jokes about this stuff?

Rape Jokes in the Hellaverse. There's two that I remember instantly right now, but I think there's more in total.

- Sir Pentious in the club (Hazbin Hotel, "Welcome to Heaven")

- Moxxie and Verosika's crew (Helluva Boss, "Spring Broken")

But yeah. Tell us more about how the writers don't think rape and abuse jokes are funny because in this case the abuse is "the character making that joke". "The audience isn't meant to see it as funny," but so many audience members did. Because it's framed as a dark humor joke. Like, that was comic relief. Look at the yaoi paddle and tell me that wasn't included as a joke. Be honest. Just because you didn't find it funny and see it as an interesting characterization moment doesn't mean it wasn't also a joke.

And what does it mean that the serieses keep including abuse and rape jokes? Since this whole thing was supposed to be about "media literacy"?

I'm not generally very into the Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao comparisons, mostly because I don't like the implications they usually carry with Nie Huaisang "becoming just as bad as Jin Guangyao," but I do think it's interesting that they're both intended to contrast Nie Mingjue, with Nie Mingjue being written specifically to oppose Jin Guangyao, and Nie Huaisang to conflict with Nie Mingjue.

These are the two characters most important to Nie Mingjue's story, and they are both his opposite. And so, his story is built specifically around clashing. What does this say about him? What does it say about his two opposites? What do they show about him? What does he show about them?
