The problem with affirming that you don’t want to give up on your entire life through the metaphor of consciously acknowledging that you considered just letting your phone sink to the bottom of a glacial lake somewhere north of Muskoka and then said NO THE PHONE WILL LIVE is that the cell phone is inherently a cursed object.
Have you seen some of the concept arts for Wish??? We could have had evil power couple Amaya and Magnifico, AND Star could have been Asha's love interest!!! Why Disney didn't go with this??? It would have been so good!
Yes I've seen these concept art, and I'm glad so many people are so excited, but I doubt they would have been much better at all.
Especially bc Queen Amaya in that concept art was noticeably more brown-skinned than her finished product, can you imagine the hoops that folks would leap through to hate her and blame her for Magnifico's evil? Heck, they already do that with Amaya in the finished movie. One of the movie's strengths as it is now is that Magnifico's actions are his own fault; no one manipulated him. And people still reach to try and claim he's misunderstood.
Maybe it would have been amazing to see Star as a more human-like form, but I don't agree with the love interest thing. It really gives "people will see a boy and girl standing next to each other and go OMG THEY'RE DATING!!!!" vibes. Or Peter Pan and Wendy vibes: mischievous immature character paired with compassionate and selfless character who has to be mature enough for the both of them.
In short, the concepts are fun, but I doubt they would be executed (or received by fandom) very well.
