honestly, the fact that I had every member of the Carebear Family memorized by age 3; and every flag in the United Nations (circa my 1993 maps) memorized by age 5 (and would pridefully identify the flag and country for strangers in order to gain treats--specifically free flags--for said party trick at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics); and could recite full paragraphs of Harry Potter from memory by age 8

A select section of Tolkien & LotR appreciators are reacting quite poorly to the recently announced paper schedule for the Tolkien Society summer seminar on Diversity. Wrote this for Twitter, but then received an email from TS warning about threats via email and social media, and then I realized I did not wish to feed the trolls, and that Tumblr was probably a safer space to vent.

Chronic illness is both rude and boring. I have so much to do and I was doing it and enjoying it and now I’m flat on my back waiting for this to pass. *sigh* Guess I actually have to talk to my doctor at the next visit, instead of just trying to get in and out as fast as possible.
