Note that the front windows are plated over, generally indicating that the railroad chose not to install bullet-resistant glass, as mandated by the FRA. The side windows, however, remain intact. From FRA Part 223: Except for yard locomotives and locomotives equipped as described in paragraphs (a) and (b), of this section, locomotives built or rebuilt prior to July 1, 1980, shall be equipped with certified glazing in all locomotive cab windows after June 30, 1984. Number 5456 was built by GE in December 1966 ( c/n 36117 ) as CB&Q 112, retired by the BN in August 1986.
