U.S.Agent #4
I can’t believe that “republican Captain America” is one of the best characters in the MCU almost entirely by accident. Like, they tried to make “unlikable” or at least the villain in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but like, he was the best character in that show. They wanted him to seem so unreasonable and for the audience to hate him but the writing wasn’t good enough to set that up like they wanted and I just ended up siding with him.
Also loved in the Thunderbolts, when everyone was shown their darkest memory and his was just, not really had? Like, Yelena is remembering when she got a kid killed and his was just like “yeah I kinda became a dick after my best friend died and my government and the whole world turned their back on me.”
Really makes me wish there were some better comics to read about him. I remember ComicDrake (youtuber, you should check him out) kinda talking about the same thing. How he’s a surprisingly compelling character with a tragic backstory, but that since his debut it was like Marvel didn’t know what to do with him. Seriously, it was like every time he joined a team that meant the comic run would end shortly after. I hope it’s changed in recent years, as I continue to get caught up on comics.
