what does the house staff do when they notice jamie is in a spiral?
It's a tricky situation, the balance of class and profession and the weight of the employer dynamic. at least, in the beginning, for Mary-Anne, it was.
You don't infiltrate where you are not asked, you do not make presumptions in interaction, and you don't wait hovering at the door with a hand just above the door knob, as someone for whom you work is enrapt yet again in the call of melancholy.
but ah, it was not a typical means of employment, now was it? and there were certainly many eves when mary-anne stood in wait, in concern.
Jamie tends to self isolate a lot when spiralling, doesn't leave the room, struggles to properly eat, and the things they do consume are rather inideal.
At first Mary-Annes aims were just to pick up the pieces, removing trays that were not picked up at an unanswered door, to remove any shattered glass from accidents and intents, still getting out the laundry in due time even if there was less of it. But Mary-Anne is not called The Unrelenting Housekeeper for nothing, and as her unconventional bond with Mst.Awnings developed, so to did her will to stand by.
So closed doors became shoved past, the extra bottles got placed on higher shelves, and soup and tea was left at a bedside table when needed, though never forced. One cannot remove the collapsing state of a minds own panic from another, that is something that can only be remedied by one's own, but having that support through the waves? that makes all the difference.
and sometimes one simply need to be rerouted, a different conversation broken, or a distraction placed in front of them, to break from the collapsing tangle of thoughts, when they are in a spiral
So Mary-Anne would speak, and in time, so would Edith upon her arrival. Different ideas for snacks and baked goods, and any matter of old resturant tales of chaos that could sure to delight even the most wandering a mind of a poet.
An extra strawberry scone made or a dedicated air of a roast do wonders, even if that wasn't in the intended menu for the week.
and Viola...well. she fretts and flutters about, hands wringing in concern and anxiety. But well, sometimes her making a careless mistake in her most humorous ways can be a distraction in and off itself - one does not sweep the dishes after all.
the house will still run, no matter the time or the changes in the wind. and when this too passes, they are not alone.
