About Proserpina
Proserpina is many things, many names and many faces: Soteira is one of them. For years Her stories have been swallowed up and/or rewritten, being pinned under those of what many call Her counterpart, Persephone. Do not make the mistake of confusing the two.
Her name, meaning "to crawl" or "to creep" has led few many of us to believe some of Her earlier myths were of a serpentine origin, connecting Her to snakes and making Her a snake goddess. Proserpere means "to crawl forward". She is also very much independent of Ceres, prior to the classical merging with Demeter and Persephone. She is an herbalist, a Shaman, a Healer, a Priestess of the Highest, a Maverick, a Sovereign, a Psychopomp...the list goes on.
She may walk in similar energies of Hekate, Angitia, Diana, Angerona, Persephone, Libera, Artemis, Circe, Kore (the OG, not just the term 'maiden') and others, but Her signature is unique. And not all will understand that. One need only glance at how little of Her remains today outside of Persephone to see that.
Ways to Honour Her
If you are wanting to honor Her cyclically, the 1st of every month with heavy emphasis on April 1st - She is that secret deity, holding a fish in Her arms with a key in its mouth. In plain sight. Other days are the: 3rd, 7th, 9th, 13th, 27th and 29th of every month. Herbal allies are Rue, Thyme, Olive, Motherwort, Mugwort, Pomegranate, and Rose. Animal allies are, of course, snakes, owls (particularly barn owls), hounds (definitely Borzois), bears, fish, corvids, and wolves. Her time is nighttime, so working during the lunar hours are favored.***
***NOTE. A lot of the information here comes from my own personal practice with Her, as well as research AND what is channeled directly as She pours into me.
