I love your art for Tears of the Machine! Is there any writing you or the other players have written down anywhere? The characters all look so interesting and I’d love to read about the story! ❤️
Actually….. boy, do I have some exciting news to share with you. We actually wound up all falling so in love with Tears, the characters, and the story that we’re now currently working on adapting it into Tears of a Machine: the Audio Drama! It’s been really fun to work on because we’re crafting it to be video-based with some really cool supplemental illustrations, so it’ll be more like a narrated comic book than a regular ol audio drama. We’re hoping to launch it some time this year, and I’m hoping to have a trailer of sorts out in the next few months! So you’ll have plenty an opportunity to experience the story and I hope you enjoy it! <3

I am wearing my typelikemad-inspired Runner 4 hat to celebrate.

I love the in-universe artefacts and feelies that the Zombies, Run! people make. I have a Mighty Need to collect them all. I’m like a magpie.
Case in point. They are so shiiiiny.
I haven’t opened these up yet, because I dislike getting bits and pieces of story information devoid of context. Whatever is in these will likely be easier for me to internalise during actual gameplay. I expect that part of the contents will be the Special Zombie cards and the Weapon cards, as there aren’t any of those in the base decks. Speaking of which:
Left two columns: Zombie Cards. Each zombie has an individual name, and requires different numbers and types of Plan Cards to defeat. The colour on a Zombie Card indicates what the final stage in a plan has to be in order to take out that zombie (all of the zombie cards visible here can be taken out by a plan that culminates in Sneaking), and the number on the right-hand corner of a Zombie card indicates the minimum number of Opportunity Cards that need to be used in a Plan for it to work against them.
Top row, left to right: The purple cards are optional After Dark Zombie cards, requiring players to do thinks like Take A Shot or Sing A Love Song to defeat them; the middle cards are Close Call cards, used to determine whether one of the players got bit by a zombie and died during a mission; the cards on the far right are for playing Versus Mode, and are used to sic zombies on your opponents like a jerk.
A to E cards: This is the Zombie Tracker, used to measure how close the zombies are to the players. The app will prompt you to add or advance zombies on the tracker, and if they advance past the E card, you will have had a Close Call and need to Check for Bites.
Plan Cards and Opportunity Cards: You can have up to four plans on the go at once, represented by Plan A through Plan D. You stack Opportunity Cards with matching sidebars together like dominoes to form a Plan, and once you have a Plan with the correct length and final colour, you can remove the matching zombie from the tracker. During the game you might also be challenged with Skill Checks or Reaction Tests, where you have to put together a Plan with certain unusual restrictions (for example, “at least X cards of a certain type”, "no more than Y total cards”, and/or “in under Z seconds”).
I really like the colour schemes they’ve got for the Opportunity Cards, with the person on the card very clearly indicating the colour the card represents. The art overall is impressively clear and well-rendered. Kascha Sweeney deserves all the applause (also onya Aussie :P). I’m looking forward to seeing how the game plays at the high pace the previews have seemed to indicate.
